No way will he drop it any time soon given the crossover appeal he's received along with the chant.
Most that'll happen is Bryan will find new ways to integrate it into his schtick, but it will follow him for most of his career, much like Rock had "If you smell what The Rock is cooking" and Austin had "And thats the bottom line because Stone Cold said so". Difference between those and Bryan's Yes is that Yes isn't linked to just Bryan and only him, making it easier to get behind.
I'd normally say that his Yes is Austin's What, but the Yes chant has far surpassed the What chants now given the crossover appeal.
I think he doesnt need to do it constantly, but he may be under orders to do so. The visual is awesome and it makes the crowd look more invested in the product when they are only invested in him.
Every wrestler has their thing that they say or do every time they go through the curtain . To say Bryan should ditch something thats become as big as he , would be stupid
I honestly love the YES Chants. It looks fuckin awesome when the crowd are yes'ing with him. For an example when he turned on Bray Wyatt. That was such an amazing moment.
I don't agree that he should ditch the YES! chant because it's super over, but I think he should tone down forcing it into promos when it's unnecessary. I agree with your overall sentiment of him needing to grow a backbone and stand up for himself. Just smiling after embarrassingly losing the Rumble and taking this bullshit on the chin is doing nothing for him and the company will never respect him.
Agreed about not forcing it into promos because it's just way too corny. Altho 100% it is Vince making him do that. It's not a natural thing at all and just reeks of Vince telling him he has to fit it in somewhere.
The only way he gets rid of the Yes! chant is is WWE truly tries to bury him.
If for some reason Vince decides that he's sick of Bryan's fanbase, he might take away the chant and turn him heel in hopes of ending the so-called "Yes! Movement."
I don't see this actually happening though. Vince wants Bryan's fans to watch and spend $$$ on WWE, he just doesn't want Bryan to be the focus of the show.
How many other people have came out and done the YES chant to similar results? Authority, Big Show, Brie, etc. The chant is over just as much as Bryan is.
When he is pissed off, for storyline purposes, he should walk down the ramp and not do it. The crowd will still do it for the awesome visual and because they love Bryan, but it would show he means business. Such an idea would have been great for his match against Lesnar (that doesn't exist :sad
But in general... NO. You want him to stop doing his chant/catchprase? That's like saying Rock should stop calling people candyasses and whatnot. It ain't happening.
YES! is a fun chant that gets everyone in the crowd on their feet and excited. It's the only thing the whole crowd does in unison besides booing Roman Reigns.
Agree, it's silly. Right now when he comes out I just think he looks like a cheerful lumberjack who would be on a commercial endorsing some podunk town's local house of pancakes. I think he could easily pull off being a tough guy, first by returning to a look similar to this:
And then, of course, they'd need to stop watering down and limiting his moveset to kicks and FLYYYYIN' GOATS MACKLE :jbl
Like I said before, the man can throw a mean forearm/elbow strike and his suplexes are pretty damn nice as well.
Because the Yes chant is not holding him back whatsoever.
