I've come to the conclusion that Reigns getting a super push really isn't all that bad. Don't get me wrong, I don't give two craps for Reigns either in or out of the ring, but I think he will still be a vast improvement over what we've been getting the past few years. Reigns will basically be a Rock 2.0...whom I also don't care for, but again was still loads better than having to listen to Cena every week.
I also think Bryan v Ziggler will steal the show at this year's Wrestlemania (assuming it happens).
I love how people were pissing and moaning over WWE not building up new stars and forcing Cena down our throats for years, but when WWE actually decides to try a new star they piss and moan some more.
Maybe because Reigns is not half as good as Cena in the ring. Cena has had many, many match of the year candidates over the years. He even had one with Umaga. Put Reigns in the ring with Umaga and the match would be total crap. Reigns has only had a couple good matches in his life. Against Orton and Seth. Not even great matches. Just good.
Cena cut a good amount of promos that the fans were into before he finally got the big push. Roman hasn't done that.
I personally haven't minded Cena too much over the years. Haven't really cared too much for him the past couple of years and I was happy Punk and Bryan were on top, but just because Cena's act is old and tired, that doesn't mean that just anyone (Reigns) is a better choice than John Cena.
I think it's kind of a false choice. Cena still has it all over Reigns except, pardon the pun, his time is just about up. Still, between the two, I can't help but recognize that Cena is more entertaining to watch. What's entertaining about Reigns right now is the shit storm he's in the middle of, not Reigns himself.
I think a better direction for WWE to go in would be to have it like the mid-90s when they try several different guys on top and see if they stick. I think they're doing that now with Reigns, and that he won't have nearly the longevity that Cena had because he just isn't developing at the rate Cena did. Between 2002-2005, Cena added new things and won the crowd over. Reigns was just the power guy in The Shield and now he's important because we're told he's important.
It's entirely possible that there's a new guy rising to the top a year from now, or that Reigns is doing what Brock's doing for him right now, playing a dominant heel putting over an up and coming new star.
I agree. People are assuming Reigns is just going to hold the title for a year and then face Cena at next years Mania.
I don't believe this will happen at all. No matter what happens at Mania i think the guy who was the break out star of 2014 will go on to even better things this year.
:rollins
He's going to surpass Reigns quite easily and lets not forget he also has the support of HHH and Vince.
Then you have guys like Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose and Ryback (If they decide to get behind him). They're all knocking on the door.
Another thing. They don't want Bryan in the mania main event two years in a row and they want to try and create a star with Reigns. Fine, i don't believe it will work but w/e :vince it's your company.
Is Daniel Bryan never going to be a world champion again? He will be. Mania main event or not he's a ''top guy'' now.
I'm not worried about WWE, i just think they are wasting their time with Reigns right now when they should be focusing on other people who are more ready.
I love how people were pissing and moaning over WWE not building up new stars and forcing Cena down our throats for years, but when WWE actually decides to try a new star they piss and moan some more.
New (good) Star. The implication being that the product is GOOD. This is always implied because most people have grown up to learn that. When you ask for a present, you do not ask for a shit stained present. You ask for a good one.
Attempting to compare Roman Reigns to John Cena is an insult to John. Cena may be stale and quite disliked, but he's worlds above Roman in terms of talent.
To be fair to him (even though I can't stand Cena), I don't think I'd mind him as much if he hadn't been booked as an unbeatable God for the past 10 years, with the same stupid character and moveset during that time.
Between him and Reigns, Cena is unfortunately superior to Reigns at everything, even though Cena's a B- at best in most skills necessary for professional wrestling. So the problems with Reigns aren't just down to his booking (even though it's obviously a big problem.)
Can you imagine how hilarious this feud will be? Taking each others catchphrases, telling each other corny stories, and having the crowd divided in a minimum of 4 ways with the chant possibilities being endless:
"LETS GO ROMAN, ROMAN SUCKS!"
"LETS GO CENA, CENA SUCKS!"
"LETS GO ROMAN, CENA SUCKS!"
"LETS GO CENA, ROMAN SUCKS!"
"CENA SUCKS ON ROMAN'S, WHAT?"
This will be entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
A new face in the main event scene is always good whether you like the person or not. The more top stars there are, the better it is for the company and the product as a whole.
With that said, I think Cena has built a solid legacy and has set the bar with what it means to being a face of a company. It's definitely too early to tell if Reigns will be put in that role, let alone how well he will do as the Face of the company if placed in that role.
In addition, I think it's a bit unfair to compare Reigns and Cena because Cena has more experience than almost anyone in that role. Moreover, I'm sure Cena didn't have the knowledge he has now, back when he became the company's top guy.
And to your Ziggler/Bryan point, I think they will have a good match at Wrestlemania but I think Daniel Bryan vs Cena would be a better match and could have a way better story.
Cena is a far more annoying overall character, but he is far more talented than Reigns... And it isn't really close. And if the company doesn't ditch the looney toons promos for Reigns, he'll probably be just as annoying pretty soon.
Say what you will about Cena, the guy can put on some very entertaining matches and cut a decent promo every so often. I haven't seen Roman Reigns do either of those things.
