I'm sure I'll get heat and insults for this thread but whatever. I'm genuinely curious to some people's mindset. If this doesn't apply to you and you never did this then no need to get angry. Don't take offense.

I remember multiple discussions around here about who should keep the Shield gear when they inevitably split up or what they should all wear afterwards. Most were in agreeance that Reigns should keep the gear because it fit his character and he looked the best in it. But despite people saying that, he's now mocked for keeping the gear. You wanted him to keep the gear and now that he has you shit on him for....keeping the gear? Short term memory?

I remember people use to love Reigns' look when he was in the Shield. "He looks so badass.", "Can't lie, Reigns is a good looking dude no ****". (I'm not making this up, these were actual comments I saw all the time) And now, that's the main thing everyone makes fun of, his look. Some have even convinced themselves that he no longer looks like a badass (even though most thought he did while he was in the Shield) and that he's, "too pretty to be a threat or taken seriously". Hmm.

I remember people MARKING out when he hit the spear, apron kick, and the Superman Punch. I saw this icon :mark: used soo much. Oh man, positive comments all across the board. "Fuckin Reigns and that spear!!" "Reigns' spear is perfection" "Man he broke Rey Mysterio in half" "His superman punches are cool, he got so much height on it" "That Apron kick is a cool move, Reigns is pretty athletic". Now? These same moves people shit on constantly despite loving them earlier. Even if you hate the move being spammed to act like the move now sucks even though you liked it is just....???

I get no longer enjoying Reigns. I get hating his push. I get knowing Ambrose and Rollins are better. I just find a lot of the extreme hate he gets hypocritical and laughable considering the huge amount of people who were on his dick. How do you go from one extreme to the next? Seems fickle. If you were a fan of his in the Shield (and yes, most of you had Shield signatures and avatars and liked them as a group and appreciated what they all brought to the table) how is it that now you spew SO much hate his way? How come you can't just have your favorite and hate Roman's push. Why COMPLETELY turn on him and shit on him everyday? It looks so full of shit.

So, did you genuinely change your stance on these things or was it the push that made you hate everything about him that you once loved? Be honest.
If you've always hated Reigns then disregard. And also this has nothing to do with the Rumble results. I just mean in general. This has been going on for a year.

I remember it being pretty split. I liked Ambrose more than Reigns and Reigns more than Rollins in the Shield. Of course since they've gone single I like Rollins>Ambrose>Reigns. I think after the breakup Rollins and Ambrose broke out and Reigns really didn't grow as much as the other two.

Kind of like the 12 year old that is bigger than everyone else and then when he's 18 he's the same height as when he was 12, metaphorically speaking.

Oh yeah for sure. I think early on Ambrose was the most loved, Rollins was really close, and Reigns was last. But I'm just saying they still loved him, not as much as the other two but they did. I just wonder how you go from one extreme to the next. From loving someone to despising someone. I know he hasn't grown as much but he's still the same character they loved. So why not just hate his push?

Not true. When the shield were still together there was many fans upset with how Rollins and Ambrose were doing all the work but Reigns getting all the glory. So even at that time we were well aware of Reigns lack of talent and almost everyone believe Ambrose and Rollins were far more talented. Rollins in the ring and Ambrose on the mic. And a year later Reigns hasn't done anything to change that opinion.

I also find it funny that both Seth and Dean have evolved and paved their own way and own style while Roman still is exactly the same. same music, same entrance, same ring gear, and same style.
I'm talking in the beginning. Before they made it obvious he was the chosen one. They were all loved.

This OP gives a good reason why WWE doesn't put too much stock into what the current/hardcore fans think about a push, it happens to every wrestler even with Ryback's first push. It is more a problem with their booking style that they need to address rather than with the wrestler.

I don't like Bryan but it seems that when someone isn't obviously pushed and is deemed to be "held back" by the fans, they gain popularity with the hardcore marks.

If they wanted to make Reigns the guy they should have jobbed him a bit and held him back as an under dog a bit more, then the fans would have stayed on his dick because they would have believed they were the ones that got him over. The WWE are smarter than the marks give them credit for in regards to that.

Again I refer to my man Ryback. He got pushed to the moon and the WWE hardcores got sick of how obvious it was so WWE took him down a notch and turned him heel, then knocked him even further down the card and put him in a tag team with Axel. Fast forward a year later and after an injury, all the bandwagon Ryback fans come out of the woodwork claiming how much they love him and they all get on his dick again. Ryback becomes really over and starts to go on a streak, they could have pushed him to the moon at this point and made him win the Royal Rumble this year but what's the point when the fans would have just turned on him again.

It's the same with every wrestler that gets a mega push, it's really a no win situation for everybody and internet darlings like Bryan don't really help the cause, it was bad enough when he wasn't here with Cena's reactions.

The mid card is the best place for a wrestler in 2015, the hardcore fans won't shit on your character and you still have a chance to ride out the current bad writing and have a long, successful career. If Bryan wasn't booked the way he was he wouldn't be as popular as he is now and could easily be hated by the hardcores like Reigns is.

That was when he was in college and playing football.

I don't love or hate his push. I would rather see Ambrose, Rollins, Wyatt in that spot but it's not going to send me into orbit because Reigns is getting it. The reason being is earlier I mentioned the issue isn't Reigns getting a push but rather the fact the WWE needs to get away from this "the guy/face of WWE" mentality. I don't want to see anyone in the so-called #1 alpha male spot because I feel this kills the main event scene. Would rather see a top tier by committee than the chosen one that is placed in "THE" spot for years to come. Doesn't matter if it's Reigns, Cena, Bryan, Rollins...

I never disliked reigns. Not even now. What I dislike is them making reigns the guy when he,s done jackshit to deserve it. Thats Daniel Bryans spot. The best worker in the wwe. The most over guy in wwe. 15 years of hardwork. I dont want to see a Cena repeat with this guy. Fuck that shit.

No, you :gtfo. You just joined a few months ago. You have no idea what this site (matter a fact numerous others too) was like during early Shield days. I was a lurker before I created an account I witnessed it all, so deny all you want but they liked that man that much was obvious.

He doesn't wear the badass Shield gear, he wears Jeff Hardy-esque gear.

People are making fun of it because he now not only acts more ridiculous with those expressions he does but you really can't find another reason why he is the NEXT BIG THING outside of his fabled LOOK. He certainly isn't getting pushed for outstanding mic or in-ring skills.

That was cool when he hit his three moves as "POWERHOUSE" in the Shield but you seriously can't tell me anyone would be interested in watching him get in a headlock for 4 minutes and then hit those three moves cause he has nothing else.

It's one liking him when he is in a badass stable and gets the most "casual" spotlight, it's another when people are seeing now how good Ambrose and Rollins and Reigns hasn't improved and he still gets everything because there is no such fucking thing as brass rings.

I enjoyed the Shield as a whole but I'm not full of shit for not liking Reigns. Cause you know, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, applies to Reigns. He came across much better when he had someone to balance out his weaknesses, but the same can't be said for Ambrose and Rollins whose strong sides were largely held down in the Shield.

I would really wish that people would stop with this "You all loved him, now you all hate him." People liked him because he wasn't running down the whole roster alone, he did that with the Shield. People liked him because his weaknesses were hidden and he could hit his three spots and you would think "That looks awesome". People liked him because everything was OK as long as the Shield was going strong and they knew that Reigns running all over Ambrose and Rollins wasn't gonna happen that soon. But when you take away everything that made him "cool" in the first place and at the same time you upgrade the already superior talents and yet, he is the one going on top regardless, then yes, people can easily turn on him. People turn on Punk and Bryan and Ambrose and Rollins too, but that's because they start finding them overrated because everybody rides their dicks for actually being good at something (Bryan best the best in-ring worker, Punk being great mic worker, etc) instead of finding them overrated because everybody rides the dick of someone with subpar skills.
What's wrong with Jeff Hardy gear? lol And I don't see any similarities between the gear, maybe the pants but that's it. Still, people wanted him to be the one to keep it and now that he has people say he sucks for still relying on Shield gear or say he looks stupid in it (even before they remixed it).

I don't agree with the "people liked him because they hid his weaknesses" thing because all throughout the Shield days everyone knew his weaknesses already, knew WWE were hiding them, and knew Ambrose and Rollins were doing most of the work but yet they still loved him.

I also don't think they took away everything that made him cool. He's essentially the same exact character. Take away his 2 or 3(?) fairytale promos recently and all his work throughout his solo run has been the same. Also, his clothes made him cool, same clothes. His 3 moves of doom made him cool, same moves. That's why he's still over in most cities with the casuals, he still the same guy they loved from the Shield.

And to the rest I get it, trust me. I know why people don't like him now, I know why people hate his push, I know who people consider better and more deserving. All of that I agree with. The point of my thread is me just wondering not why you'd (not you in particular) change your opinion, but how do you go from, "Reigns is a star I love him" to " I hope he dies or breaks his leg to stop his push"? Where is the middle ground? I mean you (again not you in particular) did love him right? How did it get SO extreme for a guy who has always been the same. Why not just say I still don't mind the guy but his push is horrible. Why rewrite history and act like all of a sudden his apron kick is executed like shit when the same users (literally, I remember some of them who did this) said he did it beautifully? You see what I mean?

That's why in the OP I just want to know if people are going to be honest and say yes his push has made me completely rewrite history of the things I said and loved even though I already knew what I was getting with Reigns. Appreciate the response Nicole.

Despite what people believe, opinions can change.

That being said, this past year has exposed a lot of Reigns's shortcomings as a solo star and is more evidence to me that he is not ready for what's being handed to him and it is an awful decision on WWE'S part to have him ME so soon at Mania.

I was a never a big fan of him, though. Most underwhelming member of the Shield and still is.

Reigns has got ability, we'll see how he does.

Bryan had his big moment last year, he can always come again, and most certainly will be back in the main event before long. I want to see how reigns can do in a big match and they don't come any bigger than Lesnar at mania.

That's because he was good in the role he did in The Shield.

Rollins and Ambrose did most of the wrestling, while Reigns came in at the end and hit his big moves. That worked.

Reigns hasn't adapted well to becoming a singles star. He's struggled without Rollins and Ambrose IMO. In The Shield, his micwork and in-ring work were very limited. He was powerful and hit good finishing moves, but that was it really. Can you imagine Reigns telling fairytale storys in The Shield? I can't. He never wrestled long matches whilst he was in The Shield either, he usually just made small, impactful spells in a tag match.

I agree with the poster who said WWE should have made Reigns return at the Royal Rumble. His work in December and January showed his flaws so much more than what was neccessary.
