Recent months an influx of Roman Reigns fans have been appearing. But I ask, why?
What exactly is there to mark out about?
Roman Reigns is a guy with a lot of potential in this business and could very well be the industry's next top star. Then again, I can say the same exact thing about Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Cesaro, Titus O 'Neill, Big E Langston, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, and even Sheamus. The key here is POTENTIAL, as all the guys I listed including Roman Reigns are all missing something right now that is preventing them from being in that top spot just yet.
Roman Reigns on the other hand is way behind on a lot of things. Anyone who has been watching wrestling all their life...nah, 2 years actually can tell there is many cracks in Roman Reigns as a performer. It's been 2 years since his debut at Survivor Series, and even longer including his time in developmental, and the guy simply hasn't changed all that much.
Since then, he's learned how to do a lot of gimmick spots like the Superman Punch and that kick thing he does and managed to get them over. This is a great thing and pretty much translates into cash if the crowd continues to get into it, but even before his return at TLC a couple of weeks ago the crowds were just wanning down on Roman Reigns each and every show he was in, which is happening yet again.
Roman Reigns simply put, does not have the ability to carry his momentum right. Here's a guy who's getting the keys to the kingdom and every opportunity to do so, and he can't even carry a solid reaction in each town he's in. Every show continues to have Reigns becoming less and less over outside of Smackdown cause Vince tells the producers to edit in crowd noises.
Roman Reigns however does have a good look, and has some solid spots in his matches with the superman punch, his spear, his kick thing, and all three of those will continue to be over. However I feel like he's ending up like a lot of guys Vince tries to push hard in the past like Del Rio and Sheamus for example...he's getting too much he's capable of carrying, and that's nothing but a story to backfire on him.
But that's it. He's very limited in-ring, gets tired very easily, his promos are legitimately awful with constant botching, he has no charisma, his gimmick is literally "Superman," there's just nothing here for me to get all excited for.
There's nothing about Roman Reigns that is telling people to purchase a ticket to see him, or buy his merch cause his merch is terrible looking. I see more Ambrose, Punk, Bryan and Ziggler merch in audiences than Reigns merch, and this is supposed to be the next top guy...
I can understand being a fan of him, considering I actually like Roman Reigns and wish him the best, but being a mark aka getting excited and pumped to see him...I'm just not seeing it, sorry. Nothing about him makes me excited or wanting to turn the channel to RAW to watch. Roman Reigns is not "must-watch" for me on RAW.
So I ask again, why mark over Roman Reigns?
