He was anything but mailing it in those last few weeks before leaving. It was the best he had been for quite some time. He was probably getting bigger pops than anyone else on the roster at that time.
Too be honest, Kane is a good opponent for a return match to get that ring rust out of your system, Kane is a very good guy in that ring and when i saw him for the first time two years ago at a live show you could see he is a veteran in that ring.
He's not wrestled for nearly 2 months guess WWE were worried he'd be rusty, and he returned at MSG thats like their unofficial HQ Besides he'll be back on tv monday
So I guess you could have him feud with Rollins until RR, and then build up a feud with HHH at WM31(assuming HHH won't be locked in to Sting). I'm assuming that the goal would be Sting/Taker, although I'm a bit worried about how "entertaining" that match will really be.
He came close to being that guy in 2004, but WWE made the hasty decision of putting the title on him too quickly/rushing his push, mainly because they wanted to spite Lesnar for leaving the company and breaking his initial contract promise. It would take Orton 3 years to recover from that disastrous decision by creative.
He could have been that guy in 2009, but Triple H had to defeat him at the grandest stage of em' all.
Then they really dropped the ball on him in 2010 where he was absolutely on fire, character-wise. He could have easily become the next top tweener there, but WWE gave the title to the Miz and ruined Orton once again.
So yeah, Orton's pretty much been doing the best he can, WWE-creative pretty much had to personally fuck him over again and again.
And now the Viper's gone if the injury rumor is true.
