That really makes no sense to me. "I am going to have nothing to do with the WWE Network. I WILL NOT give WWE 9.99 for it. I will just pay 50 bucks instead... that will teach those assholes a lesson!"
Seriously, that makes no sense.
I think it was probably people who couldn't get the Network but could get the PPV for the most part. Some people have satelite but no internet or cable and no internet. And some places the network isn't available.
I am sure some could get the network but would rather buy the PPV though. Or didn't plan to watch the PPV's regularly so didn't want to risk forgetting to unsubscribe to the network.
But if they simply bought the PPV as a protest against the network... that probably won't be a very effective one.
Some don't have the network, and it's not worldwide still. I can imagine many would still buy PPVs because it'd use a large amount of data having to stream constantly.
You've got to take into account all of the people who can't watch the network via a good sized screen/fast net speed. If you're a hardcore wwe fan who consistently buys the big ppvs (there will always be a section of the audience for this, no matter how bad the product) then you're likely to pay for a smooth product on a bigger screen than the free yet potentially jarring network version, hence why domestic b-ppv buys remain reasonable despite the network offering a far cheaper deal. Add in those who don't have laptops/computers, plus uk fans who I think had to pay on sky box office (if this includes international buys) and it all adds up.
I think this is partly why the network has flopped, because tv ppv is obviously a reliable medium, whereas net quality can vary due to a number of reasons. Plus if you're having a ppv party, would you rather sit around a huge tv screen or a computer monitor? (not everyone has the nous to hook the big screen to the PC either).

where in america is speed not quick enough for the network. i live in the west of ireland where the local water is undrinkable, we have grass growing down the middle of our main roads lol and our cable connection goes to shit if it rains and yet the wwe network streams perfect for me on a roku 3
One group of buyers are "sport" Bars and Restaurants all over the world. Wen you travel there is one constant. UFC and WWE are shown on big screen in the divers bars and restaurants. I guess they still buy it. They don't care I guess, they don't hassle with one single sport, they just buy a package with all sports and broadcast it constantly.

This will be a domestic number. It got so many buys because not all wrestling fans want to stream their content. They prefer the more trustworthy system of PPV and they're more familiar with PPV too so it takes far less effort to get access to.
Most people want to pick and choose, there are two types of people in the world.. the type that buy everything in bulk because it's cheaper and those who buy what they want when they need it/want it when they want it. It doesn't matter how much it is, some people will go to a super fancy restaurant and order a 20 dollar hamburger when they could be 4 value meals with 20 dollars at burger king.
48k. but even with that show available for free in the uk the noc number looks even worse now comparing it to the 103k that bought survivor series when it was available free in 170 countries.
summerslam with 147k doesn't look great now either considering that show wasn't free in any of the markets.
vince made the right call not to book lesnar on the last 3 ppvs
hasn't been considered a big show in years. even back in 2001 survivor series was struggling to sell tickets to the event, only drew 10k in a 20k seat building.
if we compare last year we get a better picture
night of champions 2013 drew 175,000 buys
hell in a cell 2013 drew 228,000 buys
survivor series 2013 177,000
with the network in place (731,000 network subs at last count 30 september)
night of champions 2014 drew 48,000
hiac 2014 drew 77,000
survivor series 103,000.. (wwe network free in 170 countries during the month of november)
It's not available everywhere. Also I'm sure there are some that still don't have fast internet or internet devices like the XBOX ONE, PS4, etc. WWE is running a special, if you guy a year of the network they are giving away a Roku stick.
Talking about some would rather watch it on TV than a computer. That is a point but between Smart TV's, Roku, Apple TV, video game systems and the like, there are plenty of ways to watch it on a TV screen without hooking up your your computer to your TV. I am surprised so many people watch it on the computer. I agree if I could only watch it on my computer screen, that would almost not be worth the money.
