Cena's taken the Curb Stomp a few times. When Rollins jumps in the air, Cena also jumps up, yet remains horizontal and doesn't move out of the way. Last Raw was a perfect example. It looks ridiculous and makes no sense.
I love it. I get on Cena for his shitty selling, but it makes the move look so much cooler. It adds hang time and just looks good. Yeah, if you focus on the mechanics of it, it's not realistic, but you could say that about anything (like Dean actually holding the chair to his own throat when Bray was ramming Dean's neck with the chair into the stairs).
Cena also sells DDT's really well, while I'm on the topic. Frustrating that he does stuff like that so well, but can't do everything else consistently.
Not the same thing. If Lesnar didn't get some elevation, the move would hurt him. He doesn't jump, he just stands on the edge of his feet for elevation.
Both Sheamus and Cena made the move look ridiculous imo lol.
So I guess you people are new to wrestling? Its called selling the move or making it look good. How many guys jump before Orton's even got a hold of them for the RKO? How many guys start falling down before the clothesline or worse yet cross body has even landed?
FYI Dolph Ziggler jumps up when he sells the curbstomp as well...
The clothesline and cross body examples are different from what I'm talking about. Those are small timing errors we can let slide because they're easy to ignore.
Cena, and Ziggler for that matter, noticeably look absurd taking the curb stomp.
Well the problem with Cena's selling on the curbstomp is that he sometimes fucks the timing. He made the move look atrocious on survivor series. Raw was alright though.
It's a move I used to dislike with a passion, until I realised its no less realistic than the Immortal Leg Drop or the People's Elbow - the two most iconic finishers of all time.
In terms of Cena, he either over sells or no sells - in this situation, I think his overselling enhances the impact and the move.
Great find. This is the best sell I've seen of the Curb Stomp to date. Ambrose does a great job selling it, too. So, I 'd say RVD and Ambrose sell it the best.
I complain about Cena a lot but this is silly, Cena sells some moves well. Sure he oversells but it's not that big of a deal. The Rock did the samething when taking a stunner at times, he would flip and flop around. It's a bit silly and kinda funny but it did make the move look better. Cena taking the curb stomp looks fine to me. I mean Cena really sells Cesaro's uppercut, he looks like Cesaro tossed him 15 feet in the air but it makes it that much neater!
I always thought that the Curb Stomp should have been Dean Ambrose's finisher. After all, Dean is supposed to be a dude from the street, a rough and ready type. Seth Rollins presents himself as an elite athlete, so his finisher (ideally) would be something more flashy.
How come no one rips on guys who are flat on the mat waiting for a frog splash and as the wrestler sails through the air said guy on mat sits slightly upwards and draws both arms to his sides and raises them about chest level?
Why does no one rip on guys who are actually falling backwards BEFORE the clothesline even hits?
Why do we not rip on guys who VERY NOTICEABLY jump when they are being choke slammed?
That's the way it is, but i am sure because it's Cena some of the IWC has to hate on it...

Cena's not the worst at selling the Curbstomp, but overall his over selling somewhat adds to the impact of the move I guess; still looks a bit cheesy tho.
Sheamus sold it the absolute worst. I did mention how Cena jumps into it in the CB when it happened, I think it looks silly. They all might jump into it in some form but it looks the worse with Cena because he really jumps into it.
Can't fault him or anyone though, it's a simple but dangerous finisher. Best finisher in the WWE imo. Wish he could do a springboard version or set it up a different way.
If anybody else didn't then okay, you didn't, just don't patronise us by theorising based on absolutely nothing that we only think it's bad when Cena does it. Nobody in this thread has claimed or even implied that Cena is the only person to sell moves poorly - "but what about [other wrestler]" is not a rebuttal, it's a distraction attempt.
To anyone saying "who cares, it's wrestling!": why not just clearly punch the air then and not even come close to connecting? Why go through the training to put on convincing matches? Why not, in action movies, just have the ropes clearly visible on the stuntman?
...we would like to not have to think "ah whatever, it's all fake anyway" while watching because that breaks the immersion.
Talk about "reaching", these defences are what's really reaching - the OP's criticism was valid as anyone watching the clip can see. He jumped too soon; he should be good enough to never do this, as he's the top guy, but he messed up - it's not a death sentence but let's not pretend it's just haters hating.
