We all knew it was happening and Hogan pretty much confirmed it on Twitter when he said that John Cena needs to save us from Rusev. And I say its about time! I think someone like Rusev, who is an older vet of the main event scene with a long history of success, really should be doing his part to help put over some of the younger talent like John Cena. With a big win over Rusev, this really could get Cena over and cement him as a main eventer after so many years of being trapped in the mid-card. Its good to see them finally giving John a big push.
The only question is, when? Mania? The Rumble? Tribute to the Troops?
You do realise that Hogan is not a WWE writer nor does he have any insider knowledge of the future direction of the company. He is just a spokesman. He talks a lot of crap about whatever is on his mind. It doesn't mean this will or will not happen.
Thank you. Cannot believe it took 2 pages for someone to point out that an offhand comment from hogan (who is not a booker or writer) does not mean something will happen.
It's not entirely inconceivable, if Cena is going to beat Rusev before anybody else then he'll become US Champion, because to beat him without the title being on the line is pointless and eliminates any significant rub another talent will get from taking the belt from Rusev after Cena has beaten him.
It should be Rusev vs. Ryback at Survivor Series. If he wins that, he should face The Rock next.
If John Cena gets involved, it should just be to issue a challenge that implies he faces Ryback. If he did, he'd probably talk about 'armchair Champions' who don't defend the title, since he's going to face Lesnar. Or make a request to Vince.
It will be done at Tribute to the Troops. The goal with Rusev was to get Cena into a situation where people will have no choice but to cheer for him because if you don't, you hate America. They're smart enough to realize that if they held off until Wrestlemania they won't achieve this goal because of all the fans travelling from different countries who aren't obliged to cheer for America. Also they will justify in their heads that beating a monster like Rusev will make Cena look even more of a threat to Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble the next month.
If you were building a team to fight another team, then 100% you would want the only undefeated guy in the company on your team ?!
So surely it makes more sense having Rusev on Team Cena or Team Authority...and playing a story like that ??
Fuck it, I gave up trying to second guess what the WWE does a long time ago, now I just lay back and enjoy it.
