It would be CM Punk. Selling more merch than Cena is impressive. Nobody has done that since 05-06. Nobody will again until Cena steps down as the top guy.

Re: Which Full timer has threatened Cena's top face spot the most between 2006 and no

I'd say it's Bryan, as he's the only one who has kept Cena out of the main event for a concerted time period and even then Cena's still in and around the main event match.

Difficult for me to comment on Orton's or Hardy's run as hardly watched those years but Punk was always a distant second to Cena. They never really ran with him in the main event. Punk was mid card champ while Cena was main eventing Mania with the Rock. That's no diss on Punk and I always thought his title matches would have been better PPV main events than Cena/Show or Cena/John Laurinatis but that's how he was positioned.

I have to admit, Punk only felt like THE guy to me when he was feuding with Cena. Its probably the timing of the matter, but Cena/Wyatt certainly does seem secondary (by far, actually) to the Yes movement storyline. I'd say Bryan.

Nobody really because whenever someone got hot enough, something or bad booking got in the way. Jeff Hardy had the drug problems that held him back, Batista kept getting injured, Orton was over as fuck in 2010 but instead was wasted in the background during the Barrett/Cena feud and used to put The Miz over, Punk never really caught on as a believable replacement. Bryan right now has a better chance than anyone else because he's really catching on with the crowd. It's only a matter of if he can keep the momentum going once the story of his title dreams finally concludes.

Jeff Hardy did in 08 and Orton in 09.

I'd say Bryan right now, because he is VERY over with the crowd, more than anyone else on that list. And, despite being a smark favorite, is also very kid-friendly and can connect well with them.

Honestly, only Orton and Bryan. People have short term memory, but Orton was as over as Bryan is now back in 2010. It was a sight to behold as it is now with Bryan. Hardy was at a disadvantage being on Smackdown. The E just will never pull the trigger on replacing Cena IMO. He will just have to retire.

Bryan has already replaced Cena as top face in a lot of ways, you people just don't realize it yet. The answer to this topic is obviously Bryan.

And lol at mentioning Punk, he was the least over threat to Cena ever faced. Punk 2011? What the fuck is Punk 2011? Bunch of desperate kayfabe breaking shoot promos, nothing more. He was never over 100% with all of WWE's fanbase like Bryan is right now, not even close.

One thing to remember, despite Punk closing dangerously in on Cena's merchandise sale, he was never involved in a storyline (that didn't also involve Cena) that superseded Cena's. His entire title reign was an upper midcard run, with Cena's story taking the center stage. Daniel Bryan may not be selling as many shirts as Punk or Cena, but his storylines, including when he was Daniel Wyatt, has felt like the most important segments in a show, including whatever Cena was doing.

They hardly pulled the trigger with Orton in 2010, though. He might have been very over but he's behind Cena in the pecking order. I think a lot of that was due to the wellness strikes. I think Punk was more over than Cena in 2012 but Cena was very much positioned as a bigger deal than the Champion and Punk then turned heel.

Bryan's the only guy who I can recall keeping Cena out of the main event for mania and the focus of the Show since I started rewatching and even then, Cena's still been in the main event of two PPV title matches this year in what has been a quiet year for him.
