Batista and Hardy. Batista and Cena were always close with Cena slightly ahead. Hardy was MASSIVE in 08 - 09, and the crazy part is his popularity was still growing even as he left.

I'd have to say Bryan honestly. Even though CM Punk was having a huge run of success, it still seemed like the WWE made Cena more important.

I'm not even a Bryan fan, but it's easy to see there hasn't been anyone over like he is right now.

Punk got some crazy pops even when side by side with Bryan. Possibly bigger that Bryan at the time. And it's crazy how people are still so enamored with him that they'll cheer for him even though he's gone.

I think it's telling that Cena gets loud pops against him. That tells me he's still the draw and the big deal. People are either rooting for him or against him but not his opponent.

In general, I think we've gone through a period of poor alternatives to Cena. The way he's been talking about the roster nowadays, he sounds like he wants to start putting guys over. But he also makes it sound like prior to this year, there really wasn't anyone worthy of putting over.

And lol at mentioning Punk, he was the least over threat to Cena ever faced. Punk 2011? What the fuck is Punk 2011? Bunch of desperate kayfabe breaking shoot promos, nothing more. He was never over 100% with all of WWE's fanbase like Bryan is right now, not even close.

Got damn mang. Lol. I hear ya man. I mentioned punk because he was red hot after that pipe bomb. He made it on espn, I noticed people talking about punk who hadn't before on social media. The shock value made it edgy along with him leaving. His money in the bank shirt broke records correct? Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't get me wrong- I don't think punk is where others think he is in terms of ring and mic work but there's no denying how big he was in the summer of 2011 and throughout 2012 as a face. The miscues with hhh and Nash derailed his summer momentum drastically in my eyes but he was still over as fuq. So I figured he definitely deserved mention along the others

Undertaker was in 2009, but he's rarely full time.

Punk was huge over with the core of watching fans. It's one of the reason I stopped watching. Punk didn't sell as a believable champion to the much of the older crowd. A lot of us old bastards stopped watching when WWE draped him up as the top guy. A lot of us will stop watching again if they force Punk 2.0 minus the charisma and mic skills down our throat, I guarantee it. I know I wont be renewing my network subscription if that happens.
