Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
It will be better once he's retired since more young talents would actually get to shine without being overshadowed by part timers. The streak has become incredibly predictable last few years anyway and the matches, generally overrated to shit.
I do think he should job to Bray Wyatt on his way out though. Wyatt needs it.

Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
It would be strange not seeing Undertaker appear on Wrestlemania when he finally calls it a day, cause when you think of Mania you think of who Undertaker will be facing and if said person will finally end the streak. Will his last match be the one where he finally gets defeated and retires? Who knows, majority want it to stay while others want to see someone else get that big win under their belt.
I think imo that WrestleMania won't be as big or special once he does leave because there can never be another streak & more importantly not another Undertaker.
Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
Undertaker's streak was never a big part of Wrestlemania until the mid 2000's anyway. It was a big deal well before the streak and it will continue to be after.

Wrestlemania over the years has survived the loss of the biggest names and incredible performers like Hogan, Austin, Rock, Shawn Michaels etc...Undertaker isn't as significant compared to them to begin with. The importance of streak is largely over-pushed by WWE and smarks buying into that promotion due to Taker's longevity. WWE audience will move on as always, trust me.

There will no doubt be a void left on the card much like it did on WrestleMania X and 2000, but after he's inducted into the Hall I think people will get used to it.
As far as Bray Wyatt is concerned, I think Undertaker could put him over at SummerSlam or something. The Streak is apart of Undertaker's legacy and should never have an "and 1" attached to it.
Agreed completely. They didn't start acknowledging the streak until the mid-0's anyway - Mania was a big daal then, too. But with the recent developments, a streak match-less Mania does seem odd. Once he retires for good and is in the Hall of Fame, people will get use to it.
Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
Of course. It was the same after Hogan left, after Austin retired, after Rock left. The show goes on, that being said I will miss his matches.
He can put over Wyatt on another big PPV, how fitting would it be at Survivor Series? His last match putting over Bray. But no to Mania, the Streak is a reward for his hard work and willingness to put over people for so many years.
Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
Honnestly - i felt i'd have trouble getting pumped for mania again after HBK left. Rock coming back the following year left.
I can't fathom me caring as much about Taker being gone as i did with HBK.
Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
I don't think it will be the same for a fair few years after, his match is an instant mainevent worthy bout where it usually steals the show every year and even as the years go by and he gets older the story doesn't change, his an all time legend.
I am of a differing opinion, I think the streak does deserve to stay intact but if Taker was willing to let it end and it was to happen I think it would be the perfect way to lay a platform for a future mega star, in all honesty someone up coming and young to end the streak would instantly solidify them as a legend and as an absolute star/
It should be Taker's decision but the epicness of that happening would be amazing IMO.
Re: Will Wrestlemania ever be the same once Undertaker retires?
Well, considering Taker has stolen the show for the last 7 Wrestlemanias without fail (and practically saved the last 5 from being a complete utter shit), I'd say WWE would lose someone they can count on to put a classic Wrestlemania match in the case the rest of the card tanks.
It'll take some getting use to for sure. When I hear that gong nowadays I think the Road to Wrestlemania has officially began. What's worse is when he's gone, I think he's gone for good. No special appearances or any of that.
It wasn't until Wrestlemania 20 that they've been promoting his matches the streak. Up to that point I believe it was something that didn't really notice. It will be odd for two/three years, though like really superstars coming and going, we'll get use to it even though it's hard to imagine and it's easy to sit here and simply say no. He'll leave a void that won't be filled due to the sheer incredible pull the character has.
People want to be so dire about it, think Wrestlemania suddenly loses value. If The Undertaker is your one and only draw, then I feel sorry for ya.
Yes because WM was great before the Streak became a big thing. No doubt it'll be odd for the first year or two but that won't detract WrestleMania at all.
it was unpredictable the first few years when the streak was recognise, but no it's just the same old same old and at this point it's just another opponent, with the same old rehashed storyline
and to answer the op, yes it would be the same, the following WM they'll bring in a big attraction, probably Austin's in ring return or something like that. Just think of it like any other Takerless PPV of the year
Will be huge deal when they can't rely on that Streak Match, its such an attraction to WrestleMania and automatically for the past 4-5 years is one huge match set for the show.
It's one of the reasons and arguments you can make for possibly ending the streak, if you want to benefit from it long term you need to carry that heat/momentum onto another character who is going to be at the following 10 WrestleMania's.
There is no point in breaking the streak. After WM 24, there's no turning back.
They should just do away with Taker.
