London cabbies used to have to do The Knowledge before they became cabbies. That means you spend ages going around everywhere learning where everywhere is.
Nowadays you better know where you want to go cause the guy driving you knows roughly where Hackney is, but is a wide-eyed tourist the second he gets there.
