Edge hasn't been a deserving champion since late 2006, he's a farce champion. A one trick pony, all of his title reigns are about a week and a half long, and he had to leech heat off of Vickie Guerrero for 2 years.

Even when Jericho beat Austin and Rock and became the first ever Undisputed in a time when Raw usually got higher ratings anyways, he still didn’t reach the rating that Edge did. I didn’t watch a whole lot then but I can still say with a fair amount of certainty that beating Austin and Rock and becoming the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion puts you in the position to get high ratings. Anyways, this isn't the place to discuss this but your Edge hate gets old.

He didn't draw then because people wanted Austin or Rock to be the first undisputed champion, not a total shock champion. Same reason why Sheamus doesn't work as champion. Ineffective argument. Shock champions are never a good idea. He wasn't a real main eventer then, and he wasn't looked at as a real main eventer during his reign, and he only held the belt to keep it warm for Triple H.

He's never had a title reign where he was really in a comfortable position to draw.

But, hey, at least his title reigns are real ones, not part of some bad gimmick that got old after the second time it happened.

Not really, he had a guaranteed contract for a world title shot that his time was running out on. He even laid Flair out with the case the night he cashed in. People knew he had it.

Besides, at that point, people would've taken ANYONE over Cena. Edge, Jericho, anyone. That Raw was going to draw a good rating no matter what because people were just tired to death of him. Not to mention the main thing that drew him a good rating was advertising a live sex celebration, and Ric Flair getting a world title match.

Anyway, my original point was never if either of them draw. It was just that Edge is a bad champion (or rather, he became a bad champion).

I blame WWE and Vickie Guerrero for cheapening things.

No way. Don't even try to deny this one. There was absolutely nothing mentioned about it in reports leading up to the show, there was no discussion about it, and there was no hint that it was going to happen. In fact, everyone was talking about Kurt Angle and the huge wave of momentum he had been riding. People were legitimately wondering if he was gonna finally take the belt from Cena. Everyone here wanted it to happen, and he had huge support from the live crowd. It was all Angle. It was never Edge. That's exactly how WWE planned it, and it shocked everyone just like they wanted it to.

The difference between Jericho and Edge is that when they did it with Edge, it worked. Both men ended up being booked like paper champions, but Edge was a much bigger deal. Don't get me wrong, I agree that Jericho > Edge any day of the week. But this one is a no-brainer.

Even if I was to agree that he was a shock champion, it's still an unbelievably rare occurance. The reason his title reign had such a positive reaction was because Cena was unbeatable and people were dying to have anyone take the belt off him.

If you break it down logically, it wasn't that shocking. How much longer was he going to hold the case? His time was almost up and they booked the perfect match for it.

Well, yeah, if you break it down. But that's rather revisionist. It was a complete shock at the time, plain and simple.
