But what's the difference in quality between the leagues top OF eligible player, and say a SS? For example, Trout's player rating is a 15.52 whereas Reyes (the top SS) is rated 7.40. That means that Trout has been double the player that Reyes has been this year. So, my question is - if you had Trout and Cano as your two keepers, and your choice is between somebody like Trumbo and Reyes... why would you choose Reyes just based on position scarcity? Considering Trumbo was in a platoon earlier in the season for a month and change and clearly has better statistics than Reyes.

I'd just keep the best player out of the two instead of reading the labeled position. Meh, to each their own.

How many outfielders are better than Reyes? How many SS's are better than Reyes? You can throw that outfielder back and draft from a list that are close to as good.

Don't you want the most value, however you can get it? If there's 10 or 15 OF'ers better than Reyes, and 5 SS around the same value as Reyes, why not keep/draft the best available player? Compare these ratings:

You're going to tell me you're better off with Reyes and Nelson Cruz/de Aza/Kubel than Bourn and Starlin? Nothing distinguishes one SS from another in that group, imo. Reyes is only marginally better than the rest. Keeping a C, 2B, or SS for the sake of filling that position isn't really worth it. They're all significantly inferior to the top 25 OF/1B players.

But you'd have both really. Keeping a top SS guarantees you that you don't have a complete scrub at the position.

Everyone has 3 OFs though. I'd rather have 3 top 12 OFs when 36 are guaranteed to be taken than a top 3 2nd baseman, SS, and C when only 12 will be taken and everyone after the top 5 are relatively similar.

You just hit the nail on the head right there. There's only 5 guys at each of those positions worth having. If you have one of them you hold on to them. There's a crap load of Outfielders worth having.

Look at those pitchers. Not exactly King Felix, but Price and Harvey did pretty well. Now all I need are my crappy offensive players to hit the ball once in a while while JM's team lies down.
