Without looking I think we opened the DRAFT July 31 or Aug 1 last year.
We will target that same date. It worked out. I'll send out a mass PM tomorrow or the next day. We'll begin to work out replacing people soon. Replacements will be in place a week or so before we start at the latest.
That's the plan at least.
EDIT: The drafts started on Aug 11. We will start NO LATER than that date. A more concrete answer will work itself out in the days to come.
What are people's thoughts on making these leagues AUCTION.
This would potentially kill VR, or change the way VR is handled.
Pros:
It's freaking AUCTION aka the goat way to DRAFT
Cons:
Might eliminate keepers
We'd need some escalating $$$ amount for keepers (kinda a pain in the ass to figure out but not hard)
Keepers fucking suck in football anyway. This game is best when everyone starts out even. It's fun, but luck = this game.
We could still use keepers this season, but eliminate them for next season. I'm for just doing away with them. The player pool is too small to accommodate THREE keepers. This isn't baseball where there are a million players and there are emerging extremely useful players every year.
To me, AUCTION overrides everything else. That way of drafting is superior in every way.
Oh yeah...and POINT PER RECEPTION can be a thing too. I just think we need to shake it up a bit. And I don't think some of us can take another long ass auction lol.
The likelyhood of me being able to live draft is fairly small. Would probably only be able to do it during my work hours, which is probably bad for everyone else.
I'm pro get rid of keepers. I just don't think it's that fun. Everyone just keeps a RB that now has a starting job (even though a lot seem to be busting lately) and then some guys they got off waiver wire (a lot of the time the RB came off waivers as well). Keeper is suppose to reward those that draft exceptionally and I don't think it is being used in that manner that often. It's just rewarding those that happened to get the new starting RB for Team X off waiver wire. Sure some guys do get some good value from one of their draft picks but I think this is the minority.
I would say do this:
- 2 leagues, one auction one not. If you can't make the draft you are default not in auction.
- Full point PPR (I think this is what makes league 3 awesome).
- Get rid of D/ST (they are stupid)
- Consider getting rid of geekers (stupid but less so that D/ST).
- Make rosters a little more user friendly (more multiple position spots, maybe 1 RB and 1 WR then 2 RB/WR spots) to help out with injuries/bye weeks. Yes these 2 things are a part of the game but why not?
RB is the go to keeper because injury risk is high for the position and you don't want to risk a high pick on that most of the time unless it's one of the very few elite options.
The problem is that there so few usable RBs. It's why keepers don't really work in this game. Or rather it doesn't promote balance out of the gate. Cool you hit on a late round RB/waiver RB. You won the lottery. Luck based skill ftw!
Glad you're in the anti-D/ST camp too. Replacing it with any offensive position, even QB, works for me.
I like your position flexibility idea too. It makes WRs even more important and that's the largest player pool. PPR boosts them even more.
Yeah D/ST needs to die a death. It's a holdover from when this game was created way back when. It was never needed, but I get why it was originally used.
