Please read carefully. If anything is not clear please ask.

You keep your entire roster each year.

In addition, in year 1 there is a supplemental draft where you draft 4 or 6 or some number of prospects. They become your AFFILIATE roster. And each year you refill your affiliate roster ie. DRAFT.

After each season you have to chose to either keep your prospects and they move to your main roster (ie. you have to drop a guy for each prospect you keep) or you lose the rights to that player.

If you call up a prospect mid season you forfeit a first (maybe second) whatever pick for the following year.

A prospect cannot be kept at the start of the season if he has more than 400 Plate Appearances or 100 IP.

More rules etc will be added as people ask or I think of things.

Prospect Rules

If you call a prospect up in-season (in-season = after the prospect draft to the last day of the baseball season) you lose your first round pick the next year. Each other call up after the first costs another subsequent draft pick. All picks affected by an in season call up go to end of the draft. For instance, if you called up a player, your first round pick becomes the last pick in the draft.

At the end of the year you can either move a prospect to your main roster, dropping a player from your main roster to do so, or keep them as a prospect and lose your first round pick. Each other prospect kept costs another subsequent draft pick. You can drop them outright as another option.

If you end up with more than 6 prospects through trades or what not, you have to get back to 6 prospects before the next years prospects draft. You cannot have more than 6 prospects going into the draft, and to reiterate, each prospect you have takes away a draft pick.

IMPORTANT INFO VVV
JM said:
I have set the keeper deadline tentatively as Saturday, March 21st @ 12am ET. (That's Friday Night btw).

By that deadline you need to have:
- made your prospect decisions (and posted them in this thread)
- your roster reduced to 22 (emptying your DL)
- added the prospects that you are calling up to your roster.
- Select all the players you are keeping, up to your entire 22 man roster (physically set your keepers on ESPN, if you don't they will be dropped to the wire, don't fuck up)

After the Deadline:
- 2015 Prospect draft (this should not take more than a week surely)
- AFTER the draft is completed I will finalize rosters - taking us out of predraft mode at which time you can start spending your FA dollars on waiver wire pick ups, either replacing guys you want to drop or filling any empty spots you have to get to 22.
Plz respawn

WF DYNASTY LEAGUE PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS

I want to iterate that this list was done with no scientific formula. The short story is I put a team down, looked at the next one, compared the two, and went from there. I based my rankings mainly on who I think is best to compete this year but also who's set off well for the next 2-3 seasons. I will give (what I perceive as) positives and negatives for each team, along with their best asset on their current roster (aka non minor leaguers) and one move that I'd make if I were running the team. This is obvs. just for fun; my rankings could be way off. However, if I were making predictions, these would be how I would think these teams would finish if it were roto (since H2H can skew some records).

When I looked through all 10 teams, I see what is 3 tiers for the league: the contenders -- I expect them to be buying/in the hunt in August + September, the pretenders -- those who probably will/should be playing for 2018 or even 2019, and the floaters -- if some things bounce their way they'll be right in the hunt, but if not they shouldn't be afraid to sell by the deadline. Now, enough babbling, let's get to the list, starting from the bottom up:

THE PRETENDERS

10. Cubs
Biggest Strength(s): Flexibility. Flex has, more or less publicly announced this is a rebuilding year for him. While rebuilding usually comes with a lot of losing, it does give him the ability to be flexible, which is greatly valuable in dynasty leagues. If someones willing to give him a young stud for an Arrieta or Hamels, Flex probably won't be afraid to pull the trigger. He can also fill some roster spaces with guys who have shown potential but maybe still need to put it all together. You can see that on the fringes of his roster with guys like Dylan Bundy, Taijuan Walker, Aaron Judge, Javy Baez, and a few other. While these guys may turn out to be nothing more than waiver fodder, he can take that chance since he's not expecting to compete this year.
Biggest Weakness(es): Well, there's a reason he's punting on 2017. He's lacking on superstar talent who still have more than 1-2 elite years left. If all clicks right I could see any one of Baez, Russell, or Schwarber become a stud, but that takes a lot of hoping and praying.
Best Asset: Jake Arrieta. Still only 31, he could still have 2-3 elite years left and draw a nice younger piece or two.
One Move to Make: Aside from trading Arrieta? Get rid of anyone that's either A) a reliever or B) older than like, 33. Relievers are a dime a dozen and should be the last piece to building a contender, and guys like Pujols and Beltre aren't gonna be on his next contender, so best to get any value out of them that he can.

9. White Sox
Biggest Strength(s): Utility players. IOW, he's got guys that aren't tied down to one position. 3 of maybe his best 5-6 players (Turner, Carpenter, Sano) all can play at least two spots. That gives you some protection in case of injury.
Biggest Weakness(es): Eh, like flex ABAS doesn't have any real top flight talent, but the biggest issue is that he just has a few too many guys that probably aren't more than waiver replacements (guys you pick up if one of your guys goes down). Brandon Drury? Pass. Tulo? Had Crawford already not been on the roster (who's about equal in fantasy at this point) that would've made sense. JBJ and Odubel are very similar players as well, and you're not playing them both.
Best Asset: Depends what the team is looking to do. Win now? Matt Carpenter, for his versatilty, his upspike in power, and his pretty good consistency. Win 2-3 years from now? Trea Turner, who could be a legit 20/40 guy for a few years. Quintana is solid too, though I see him as a better IRL pitcher than fantasy.
One Move to Make: Honestly, cut off some of the fat on the batting side. Guys like Lamb/Drury/Herrerra/etc. are a dime a dozen and not exactly future stars in the making.

8. Marlins
Biggest Strength(s): Offensively, there's only one real weakspot, and that's the utility spot. Nice balance on the roster, so you don't have to rely on one or two guys to carry the load. If you squint you could see a team that contends for a bit.
Biggest Weakness(es): This team could get real old, real fast. Bautista, Cutch, Lucroy, Longoria, and Kipnis are all on the wrong side of 30 and all have had a down season for them in the past 2-3 years. While some rebounded, it may be too late for some and that could cause this team to crap out fast. Also the rotation has some interesting arms but aside from Scherzer and Hendricks only Nola looks like he may be a legit 2 for fantasy purposes (I like Jon Gray as well but being in COL will always fuck with his ratios).
Best Asset: Max Scherzer. As another player who has said publicly, Stax isn't exactly expecting to compete this year. Thus Max, who may be coming off his best season ever and can certainly hear a case for best fantasy pitcher (non-Kershaw division). Scherzer could easily be turned into 2-3 younger guys with potential.
One Move to Make: Guess it's technically two moves, but I'm trying to trade both Scherzer and Hendricks for GUYS in that 25-26 range. If I gotta toss in a Kipnis or Longo to even up a big package deal, so be it. Max's value isn't gonna be any higher, and Hendricks probably had his best season he'll ever have and would be a great guy to sell high on.

THE FLOATERS
7. Braves
Biggest Strength(s): That infield, doh :datass. Other than Segura, who I'm not really sold on had anything more than a fluke last season, you could do a lot worse than a Realmuto/HanRam/Murphy/Seager/Cano infield. None of them are particularly young, which is why going for it makes sense, and all of those guys are able to hit the damn ball. Also, I'm not gonna lie, I hated you trading Arenado, but the haul you picked up was a bit dirty. Yeah, Arenado is already better than Seager and is a few years younger, but Seager is no slouch and if you get 2015 Pollock you pretty well stole a top 25 player. It's a risky bet no doubt, but juding from the roster it's a reasonable play to make.
Biggest Weakness(es): For a team that should be going all in, the rest of your bench has too much crap on it. Having 4 RF eligible guys is at least two too many. Zobrist is nice because of his flexibility, but really Jay Bruce should have been tossed in the trash bin a while ago and I'd almost argue the same for one of Pence and Kemp. Having one is fine, but having both take up a roster spot is probably an overkill. As is having 3 first basemen (Daniel Murphy being eligible there makes him even slightly more valuable) and 4 second basemen (I know Segura is your SS but he has that eligibility). With the flexibility a lot of your players have, maybe one or two position players tops, imo.
Best Asset: It's hard because your team features a lot of good-great players on both pitching and hitting but since Arenado was traded not one great-superstar type player. I was gonna say Murphy but he's 32, so instead I'll go Seager. But if Pollock comes back to 2015 form that's your guy. You'd be better off making a multi-player deal since you have quantity of good players.
One Move to Make: I'm cleaning off that bench and trying to get some relievers on my team for both holds and saves. Davis or LeMahieu may be able to fetch a B/C closer, which could be important especially if Familia misses time for his DV incident. Fill that up with closers and set-up men to get them HOLDS, baby. If you're going all in, no sense in half assing it and punting on such a winnable category.

6. Tigers
Biggest Strength(s): I have a nice little quadrant of elite talent with Bryant, Betts, Kershaw, and Verlander. Other than Verlander (who is getting long in the tooth but also had a nice rebound season), the other three are under 30, and the two hitters are only 25 and 24, respectively. If a guy like Gerrit Cole turns it back around (or even takes a mini-leap), I might have the best 4 starting lineup this season.
Biggest Weakness(es): Definitely my right side of the infield (1B and 2B, also C for shits and giggles). Gonzalez has lost half a step in his bat and now is probably top 15 at best, Forsythe is another that is the definition of average at 2B, and Ramos could be out for the first 6ish weeks and is coming back from ACL surgery, which pretty much renders him as a DH (though I'll luck out with the C eligibility this year).
Best Asset: Flip a coin between Bryant and Betts. I have no intention on moving them (since they'll keep my hopes up for pretty much the whole time), but if I did I could refill on a few of those positions I listed.
One Move to Make: No need to give myself up in some trade secrets :)side:), but unloading one of my starters for one of those positions of need wouldn't be the worst idea.

5. Rays
Biggest Strength(s): Very few holes on offense. I mean Dee Gordon is just a slap hitter but he's there for steals and runs anyways and should do a pretty solid job at those spots. Miggy, Lindor, Stanton, Cespedes, Rendon, Grandal are all very nice players to rely on for your offensive output.
Biggest Weakness(es): Pitching health. While it's something that's hard to predict, Price has had rumors of a big injury (whether it amounts to anything remains to be seen), Kuechel is coming off an injury season, Danny Duffy is 28 and has never crossed the 180 IP threshold, and literally 4 of your six relievers have DTD designations (again, may be nothing, but still). Bumgarner is a workhorse and Archer seemed to figure things out in the second half, but everyone else I'd be weary about for one reason or another. I was tempted to put this team in the top tier, but there's too many question marks for me to be that confident with that.
Best Asset: Madison Bumgarner. He's a hoss, and he's just a half-step below Kershaw with the Scherzer/Sale/Thor grouping. He's pretty much going every fifth day, and if you wanted to flip him (not that it would make much sense) you could get a legit top 15 hitter at worst.
One Move to Make: Gotta address the relievers. A bunch of guys who may get saves/holds, but other than Nate Jones few of them probably have a real established role. Either trade or FA, doesn't really matter, but just going off projections (which can be futile especially with the fragility of reliever roles) you have relievers filling up spots but not getting the rewards (holds/saves) from them, which greatly diminishes their value.

THE CONTENDERS
4. Brewers
Biggest Strength(s): Power hitting. Only one guy is projected to get fewer than 20(!) HR's on this squad, and that's Yasiel Puig. Now, some of those guys look like they're dinger or bust players (Salvy Perez, Adam Jones, Stephen Piscotty) but if they're only doing one thing at least it's hitting HR's since that helps out six categories.
Biggest Weakness(es): Starting pitching depth. Thor is a legit 1, but Strasburg seems like he'll never reach his full potential (partially because of health concerns) and Greinke is coming off his worst season in a while and I've seen some reports of his stuff still kinda lacking early this spring. Porcello is fine but, like Jose Quintana, seems much more valuable in real life than fantasy since he's not gonna strike out a batter an inning and his ERA is gonna be a tad inflated due to his home park + division. Sanchez is Porcello-lite, not exactly sexy but a decent 3 at this time. It's solid at the moment, but if god forbid Thor went out it could be a weak rotation fast.
Best Asset: Thor. It might be kinda gross how much I'm praising this guy, but if he stays healthy I think he's the second best pitcher in all of baseball. He's still not even 25, and I hope/expect he takes one more mini-leap this next year and crosses the 200 IP threshold. Pitchers, especially young ones like Thor that throw everything so hard, can be scary to bet on for their future value since so many break down. But in terms of talent, he's already the best player on a team that also features Paul Goldschmidt and Josh Donaldson.
One Move to Make: With all of the offense on this team, there are 3 guys starting with a projected OBP of .315 or lower, which is awful. I'd unload one of the OF for a closer and drop another (probably Duvall) for another reliever in general to get them HOLDS. You could maybe dangle Donaldson for something bigger, but at this point he's more valuable on the team than as a trade chip, so smaller moves are needed.

3. Expos
Biggest Strength(s): Before I jump in on this, I just want to commend Zombo on his rebuilding of this team. He took over during or after 2015 (I believe), and looking at that roster there was not a lot to write home about. Unfortunately I can't access the deals he may have made in 2015 (that's on ESPNs end) but over the last two seasons he's managed to make deals for Chris Sale (a #1 SP), Anthony Rizzo (a top 5 1B and top 25 overall player), and Nolan Arenado (top 3 3B and top 10 player). He may have made more, but that's 3 top 25-30 players that he was able to negotiate deals for. I hate trying to work trades with him, partly because he and I philosophically value the same thing (get the best player by any means) and partly because he just knows what he's doing.

As for his strengths, going off what I said above it's got to be that infield offense. Rizzo/Altuve/Arenado/Xander features a top 5/1/3/7 player at their respective position. Hell of a place to start.
Biggest Weakness(es): Pitching. As good as Chris Sale is (and how Carlos Martinez is at times), Zombo could probably benefit from another starter since his 3rd and 4th options are Joe Ross and Garrett Richards. I understand he's going for the 'load up on relievers and hope to take 6 of the 8 categories every week' strategy, which I feel is a bit high risk high reward. Every year many good relievers pop out of seemingly nowhere, but it is also a very volatile position unless you're a Chapman, Jansen, etc. Britton is in that territory, and you can argue Herrera and Osuna are as wel, but most guys are relievers for a reason. This strategy could very well work out for him, but you're putting a bit of faith in some guys where they could quickly allow 4 ER in an appearance and then your ratios are struggling the rest of the week.
Best Asset: You could talk me into Nolan Arenado, but Jose Altuve is my pick. All 5 foot 5 inches of him, he's a contributor in every category. The projections might be underselling him since they don't want to buy into his 20 HR power, but I think it's a legitimate skill of his now. His steals may not be as high (unfortunately), but there's nothing wrong with a 20/30 player who also hits .320 and scores 100 runs. Oh, and he's only entering his age 27 season. How has he been around for 5 years already? His small stature may not help him age well, but that's a good 4-5 years down the road before that worry needs to be felt.
One Move to Make: I'm trying to get a 3rd pitcher to team up with Sale and Martinez, even if that means dealing a Freeman type, as I don't want to put too many marbles in either Richards or Ross. Overall, though, this team is very strong and is my favorite in the NL.

2. Rangers
Biggest Strength(s): Young impact talent. Usually you only get one or the other (young and still growing or talented but aging), but MrMister has pulled off the houdini trick of being able to do both. Alex Bregman, Wilson Contreras, Gregory Polanco, Carlos Correa, and Rougned Odor are all 25 or younger and already very good players with some room to grow. Additionally there's old man Mike Trount (age 26) and George Springer (27) also being awesome. Joey Votto is the elder statesman of the group (33), but he just finished last year as the #1 1B according to ESPN. So yeah, this team is loaded.
Biggest Weakness(es): I noticed from observing MrMister's and Zombo's team that they both are built in a similar way -- get young guys who can already produce and try to get 3-4 starters to carry the load with elite relievers. While I do like MrMister's pitchers more than Zombo's, his problem is less with ability and more with durability. Other than Kluber (who's a Hoss) no starter on his team has ever crossed the 200 IP threshold. Not only that, but Carrasco has missed time every year in the majors with injuries, and both Velasquez and McCullers have been flagged by some people as injury risks and potential bullpen guys (due to their arms not holding up). That would then leave his SP very, very thin. Is this partially concern trolling? Perhaps, but the health issues of the three I listed is not just noise I made up to fill this spot.
Best Asset: Mike Trout. Uh, duh. Best fantasy (and all around) player in the game. I shouldn't have to sell you much more on Trout than that.
One Move to Make: Like Zombo, I'm probably trying to get an insurance policy on my SP. If you can package one of those young starters with a position player (Dahl? Odor?) for a 2/3 type, I'd consider pulling the trigger. MrMister's team is no doubt strong, but he needs maybe one move to make that jump to #1.

1. Blue Jays
Biggest Strength(s): You can sense a familiar trend with these top 3 teams: JM's got some great young talent who's already producing today. Corey Seager, Machado, Bryce Harper, Starling Marte, Gary Sanchez, Charlie Blackmon are all young and damn strong fantasy options. Plus Andrew Benintendi may be the early ROY favorite, and :EDWIN1 and Dozier are still power hitters as they are in their early to mid 30's.
Biggest Weakness(es): Back end of the rotation. JM kinda inspired me to write this post when he asked for evaluations on his three iffy pitchers, and to piggyback off of that he is taking a risk on some guys. Harvey is coming off injury and Gray literally today (or maybe yesterday) was reported that he was out until end of April. A small rotation, as I've already harped on, can be a dangerous game to play. What gives JM the slight edge is that I like his relievers just a tad more than the other two's, though I'll be honest Sonny Gray does not tickle my fancy one bit and isn't an arm I think someone like JM (a contender) should be on board with.
Best Asset: I was originally gonna say Seager because of his position designation, but then I realized Machado also has SS designation to go along with his 3B designation, so I'll take him slightly over Seager and Bryce (who has the highest ceiling but has been a bit inconsistent). Quite the conundrum to have.
One Move to Make: Other than dumping Gray? (I kid I kid) Get another starter, as I don't trust Salazar as a 2 as well and there's a few too many question marks for my liking. Overall, though, there's minuscule changes I'd make at this point if I were JM. Sometimes it's nice being at the top of the mountain, but he's got challengers right on him not far behind.

Hope y'all enjoyed reading it, just a fun little writeup to kill time before the start of the season.

re: WFFBBDL (PROSPECT DRAFT IS OPEN)

I'm loving these hot takes right now, Perfect Poster. Just to keep them going, I'm going to stay local with these next couple names:

Nick Castellanos
Rajai Davis
Phil Coke
Castellanos + of all the Tigers players this season, this one has the highest possibility of a breakout year. His defense is bad, but he's always been known as a bat first player. He hits the ball hard (28.6 LD%, which is pretty ridiculous) but it didn't totally translate last season. He has to cut down on the K's at least a little and if he can BB closer to some of his minor league totals (around 8%) his OBP should see a nice uptick. As far as fantasy wise I'd maybe take a late round flyer on him, but his spot in the order probably won't help him for some cats like R and RBI, plus he doesn't run. Could be more useful if you're in a league that's not a traditional 5x5. Since he's young there's an upside, although you'd be better off making him a bench bat and hoping he shows it early on.

Davis - Should see his role diminished with Gose being a better defender and on the higher side of the platoon, and with JD Martinez and Cespedes firmly entrenched in either COF spot. If you want a Tigers OF that can be a cheap source for steals, Anthony Gose is the guy you want.

Coke - Always thought he was somewhat mismanaged by Leyland and Ausmus. He is only a LOOGY and should not face nearly as many righties as he did. They make him a beachball. He's a killer on lefties though. With a smart manager like Maddon, if he makes the team out of spring I could see him playing in 60 some games while only pitching 30-40 IP but having some nasty peripherals. However he'll never be a closer so unless you're reaching for holds he's not worth having.

@Perfect Poster hot take request.

- THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS
Definitely a contender in an absolutely winnable division. I think the Orioles are due for some regression, I have questions about the Yankees being too old and their offense not being all that good (although their park will hide some of those flaws) and the Red Sox decidedly meh rotation. Tampa I think could be an interesting bounceback team as well.

As we discussed a bit ago, their 1-5 is one of the best in baseball when healthy. They could have as many as 7 above average hitters in their everyday lineup and their defenders at the important positions aren't black holes, with some being pretty good. Stroman, Hutchison, and Sanchez could all be high upside starters, but I think they will be in the market for a starter come trade deadline season. I don't know what their farm system is, but Hamels could be worth going for if they are in contention in June/July as that ace to carry the team. Would definitely go for it if I was them in that scenario, since it's going on 21 years since there's been a postseason game in Toronto.

PS - get rid of the damn turf field. Not only is it ugly but it's just a bad playing surface. Put fake grass in for all I care.

Re: WFFBBDL (PROSPECT DRAFT IS OPEN)

NOTICE TO LEAGUE OWNERS

It is with great excitement that the franchise formerly known as the Cincinnati Reds has been relocated to CANADA, and will henceforth be known as the Montreal Expos.

The Expos look forward to the competition, and hope to bring a fantasy championship North of the border (and East of Ontario) ( :side: )

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to competing.

Re: WFFBBDL (PROSPECT DRAFT IS OPEN)

Shit, I didn't know that Brandon. My condolences as well.

Best wishes for your father as well MrMr.

As for free agency. Waiting is fine I think so it's fair for everyone. Season starts on the 5th so maybe start free agency on the 1st of April with the first claims processing at 11am ET on that day?

I will change the waiver processing to Wednesday only and unlock rosters (finalize the "draft"). Allowing people to start bidding without it processing till the 1st. This will also allow @Dr. Ian Malcolm to start making trades since he got no time at all with his roster. Which is fair me thinks to let him start trading now.

Make sure someone remind me to change the waiver process days to all days on April 1st.

Re: WFFBBDL - tbf tbh tbstax

A fun year TBF TBH TBSTAX.

Congrats to MrMister on the victory, I hope that the win allowed all of your wildest fantasy baseball dreams to come true.

I'm looking forward to making a couple of tweaks to my roster next year, as I think I'll be able to build a team to be reckoned with. Glad that I was able to hop on-board with you guys, as this has become my favourite fantasy league in any sport. From #MakingHistory to bringing a ball club back to Montreal, it's been a memorable season.

re: WFFBBDL 2017 - DRAFT

Then perhaps one of the parties who makes a trade can announce it and tag everyone at the time of said announcement, rather than another individual later saying HEY I'M VETOING THIS SHIT EVERYBODY CHECK IT OUT, in order to prevent bias.
Campaigning is going to be apart of it always. People don't care enough to formulate their own opinions on every trade so they are going to rely on others to figure out what they should do for them.

As far as I'm concerned this one is a no brainer as it's an elite top 5 fantasy starter for your 2nd best 2nd baseman, a serviceable outfielder and a starter that should be on the waiver wire as he has negative value in this format (and any format for that matter). In essence, you cleared off your bench, got rid of a starter that you should have already dropped and got a top starter for it. Combine that with the fact that DROW isn't even paying attention to his team, probably didn't even put any thought into it and just accepted because he's a nice guy and has 0 investment in this league. All that is the obvious truth.

With that said however, others can have different opinions. That is what this thread is for.

re: WFFBBDL 2017 - DRAFT

He's got an :silverc but then again, I felt I had a rough team to take over when I joined and look at the TRUE NORTH STRONG AND FREE now, imo.
He was going the right direction when he fleeced ABAS for Chris Sale then it was 10 steps right back when he traded Chris Sale for Daniel Murphy, a bench bat and a guy that should be on waivers.
