I'm sure if they had it to do all over again, knowing what they know now, they wouldn't bother. I think it was just a situation where they had a plan for him that just didn't pan out.

He was hired to induce sentiment and empathy in the female part of the crowd. At first it worked, but gradually it weakend. So they made him a heel to create "some other" emotion, but I guess it didn't work (at least for me it didn't). So they dumped him. Bye Colin, I won't miss you, but you entertained me for a few weeks.
