Oh, you don't consider the ECW Championship a world title?
"Chavo Guerrero has never been a World champion"
"The US title is at a higher level than the ECW title"
"I don't consider the ECW title a world titile"
These sorts of things can be regularly read in the ECW forum of the WWE section, and in threads regarding ECW or former ECW superstars. It seems a lot of people just don't think the ECW title is worth a whole lot.
I don't see why, since the WWE brought it back after ECW One Night Stand 2006, the title has been defended as regularly as the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship. In 2006 it was defended at all the ****t and ECW PPV's, just like RAW and Smackdown's world titles. In 2007, once all PPV's started being tri-branded in 2007, it was defended consistently. So far in 2008 it's been defended consistently barring Judgment Day, but even the WWE and WHC have occasionally sat out a PPV and not been defended. So, it isn't a rarely defended neglected title.
Is it because the WWE chose to bring back a chamionship from one of its former competitors one that had a cult following and then proceeded to put their spin on it? Nah, they kind of did that with the WHC didn't they? Besides, what kind of reason is that not to consider the ECW Championship a world title? PWI doesn't think that way. I don't think that way, I'd like to know though, if there are people that do think that way.
It's definitely not because superstars you don't consider world title material have held it, that would be kind of ridiculous, right?
I'm just wondering, why do so many people not consider the ECW championship a world title?

It isnt always used like a world title (not defended at Wrestlemania one year and another year the match for it was one second, and the champ was in the rumble). Not to mention that the people that have held it (in the last few years, with the exception of Punk), are mid carders on any other show.

Question: WWE doesn't even value it as one of their true World titles so why should we?

It's not a world title when it's defended in the second or third matches on PPV's, and everyone who holds it are mid carders

I consider it worth less than the world heavyweight and WWE championships because ECWs roster is mostly new guys or guys who on a different show would in most cases be midcarders who in most cases would get their ass kicked by the world heavyweight or WWE champion

The winner of the rumble still technically has the opportunity to go for the ECW title, even if Chavo did enter and the WWE would likely never do that.

It wasn't defended but it was involved in arguably one of the biggest drawing match of the night. It bumped Lashley from a ME jobber to a legitimate champion and on of the WWE's top players.

It's defended regularly and has it's own show. Just because the 'E doesn't nessecarily consider it on the level with their other World titles, doesn't mean it isn't a world title.

JBL wasn't exactly a huge star when he won it, I'm an Orton mark, but he was IC champion the PPV before winning the WHC. David Arquette held the WCW title! Come on.

Get their ass kicked? RVD was a WHC contender before holding the ECW title, Big Show was a former WCW and WWE champion, Lashley was a WHC contender, and later went on to challange for the WWE title, Nitro was involved in a mini-feud with Cena in early 2007, CM Punk is the current WHC, Chavo has been in feuds with people who've held the WWE's other world titles, Mark Henry main evented RR '06.
Hardly would they "get their ass kicked". They might not be on the starpower level of the WHC and the WWE Champion, but again, come on.

How was it involved in the match? Just because the champion was in the match doesnt meen that it is involved with the match, they barley even mentioned it.

Re: Oh, you don't consider the ECW Championship a world title?
But exactly how is it a world title? If anything, it's a stepping stone toward true main-event/World title status. Exactly how the IC title and US titles were used in the 80's/90's.

It was a part of the feud, maybe not the main focus but it was their. I believe the champion being in the match makes it involved in the match.
