I dunno man, something about that storyline just doesnt quite work for me, maybe its that Vito isnt really a lovable or important character before that, in fact when we first find out he's gay he's presented as a devious predator type trying to intimidate Finn into bed. The little town he flees to is like a different universe to Jersey and I know thats the point but it breaks up the flow of those episodes. My fave stuff from it is the guys back home talking about it. Its like the whole story was an overlong way to look at their hypocritical views of homosexuality. I do love the part where Melfi brings up guys fucking eachother in prison and Tony responds "oh you get a pass for that".
The stuff later with Phil talking to Vito's son is funny as fuck too.
My favorite Vito scene is where he actually tries working for a living and is trying to count the hours down, we've all been there.

Back to The Wire, the thing that strikes me odd with the Rawls scene is it implies he lives this secret life no one knows about but he's a pretty public figure (commisioner, superintendent), he's on news reports and press conferences, do no gay people in Bmore read the news?

You what I'd like to know? I'd like to know how and where the hell Brotha Mouzone earned his terrifying rep and street cred.

I mean, jeeezus, check String's face at 0:38 and 0:52 , you realize right off the bat the brother is someone incredibly dangerous. Also, Joe saying "you fuckin with me, right"

i wish they did a prequel season to the wire. show how avon and stringer went from being on the corner to getting the towers, also the takedown of whoever had the towers before them.

you could a lot with a prequel to the wire. show how omar got his repuation, along with side stories like brother mouzone, how the greeks came to baltimore, and how they started business with prop joe. have it lead up to d'angelos trial.

and yes ive actually thought about trying to write a prequel.

Speaking of elements that went nowhere... How about Rawls in the gay club... I was sure the payoff to that was mcnulty finding out and using it against him but we got nothing.

Great show but even the greatest shows have flaws.
I don't think either of these are "flaws", just...things didn't happen how you wanted them to? they're little bits of info about the characters for the viewer, that not everyone in the world knows. they don't need to be elaborated on -- they're just there for what they were.

(i'm not saying the show was flawless by the way, I just don't see how these two things are flaws because they didn't work out how you wanted?). having cheese/randy find out about their relationship seems silly and convoluted considering there's probably >1 wagstaff in the city. but anyway.

i liked mrmister's analogy of the wire being like moving to a new city in the way it kind of overwhelms you initially. never seen it said like that before but I think it's a pretty accurate description of it.

Watched the first couple episodes. In the pilot i was kinda lost as it just drops you in, but episodes 2 and 3 were easier to follow.

Easily my favourite show ever. Ive never been as emotionally invested in characters as i was with the wire. I legit fucking hated Marlo , snoop and chris . Wallace and bodie's deaths punched me right in the feels.

As far as seasons go for me its 4 (by a mile) then id put 1 and 3 on the same level with 5 a notch below and 2 was my least favourite.

Has anyone seen the documentary they made on it with david simon and most of the characters? Really great interviews and explinations on the characters and themes of the seasons.

Bodie's death: I remember sympathizing with Poot more than anyone. Bodie went out on his terms "like a man" as he demanded of Wallace all those years before, but Poot who was usually somewhat unemotional (maybe that's just lack of screen time especially in later seasons) just broke down trying to get Bodie to run.
