Re: The Wire: The GOAT Show Discussion Thread

Season 2 really got good in the second half and became impossible to walk away from in the final few episodes.

ZIGGY's breakdown was hella cray

The first scene of That's Got His Own (Mike running from Chris & Snoop)is incredible.

So much of the show is basically perfect. Agree with the people putting it level with The Sopranos (I feel that Sopranos has higher peaks, Wire was more consistent, basically dead even though). Two greatest TV shows ever. Need to rewatch The Wire again.

The AVClub reviews are great. 'A' grade for every single episode in season 5

i am trying to get everyone onto this show. its a shame that i didnt catch it during its original run, then again, i was what 9 or 10 when the show started?

I saw that the show never did well in the ratings. its funny cause now you hear about this show more and more after its ended.

Re: The Wire: The GOAT Show Discussion Thread

yeah it was almost cancelled a few times, didn't win any awards really and basically wasn't even a sleeper hit. then it just fucking boomed when it was repeated it seems.

it's not a surprise it'd not do well with a mainstream audience though, it's very much not a show where you can drop in and out of -- i mean obviously most serial shows are like this but the wire takes it to the extreme, just because it's such a character driven show I could see some of the events not making much sense if you haven't grown with the characters.

as for the guy who's started the first two episodes, if you like those then you'll fucking LOVE the rest of the season. i think a lot of people find them difficult to "get into", particularly the pilot which kind of drops you in and has very little hand holding or exposition. but yeah. keep going, things get much better.

it's a testament to the show that if you were to ask me my favourite character it'd almost certainly change depending on when you asked me, so many fucking top tier characters on both sides of the cop/criminal divide.

You watched it at the perfect time really. A 9 or 10 yr old isn't going to get this show at all.
