Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

I forgot to mention the score, that really added to the whole atmosphere. It really felt like everything had been chosen very intricately for the film. Radiohead being in there was a pleasant suprise too.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

Sydney Film Festival is on the horizon. Can’t wait! I’d encourage any Sydneysiders on the board to go and catch a few films at what is consistently the most diverse film festival in the world (I pass a lot of time compiling long lists of what I want to see after most major festivals, so I tend to keep a close eye on what is being screened where). My itinerary is shaping up to be:

Lasting
Betrayal
Television
Borgman
Grigris
It’s All So Quiet
Longing for the Rain
Vic + Flo Saw a Bear
Eat Sleep Die
Ship of Theseus
Soldate Jeanette

As a seasoned festival goer, I generally stay away from pics with distribution, and I advise others to do the same. Having said that, there’s a bunch of stuff for the impatient such as: Only God Forgives, Stoker, The Past, Prince Avalanche, Frances Ha, Before Midnight (+ prequels), The Way Way Back, Pieta, and Upstream Colour. And Mood Indigo looks particularly charming. Something for all tastes.

Vic + Flo saw a bear sounds like an awesome movie title.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

A buddy of mine lives in jolly old England so he got to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. I am a big fan of the original series, was one of those faggots who was all up in arms over them making a movie without the original cast, but, I watched it and liked it a lot, it was a great movie. Still gonna see the second one, but, he said it wasn't very good, so that made me sad

Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

Not only is Vic + Flo a cool title, but it was filmed in the town where my sister lives in St Antoine, Quebec. Wouldn't look passed this being awesome since Denis Côté has a knack for making compelling and dark character relationship driven stories. Elle veut le chaos was a very interesting flick of his.

Fuck, wish i had the time for movie Festivals, we have Montreal World Film Festival here every year as a major thing. Lately, I barely find the time to go see a movie at the theater every month. :/

Out? i will say To the wonder and Promised Land.

In the next months there will be a strong card of movies: The new Coens, Scorsese and Polanski ones.

Jarmusch is doing "Only lovers left alive" a Vampire movie with Tom Hiddleston, Tilda Swinton and Mia Wasikowska.

James Gray is tagging again with Joaquin Phoenix for "The Immigrant" and this time they're joined by Marion Cotillard

James Franco will release at Cannes an Adaptation of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying

And you always can join the Gosling/Reifn following here and saw "Only God Forgives"

But for me the most important is:

Quote:
PARIS — Cannes’ Critics’ Week will close on a humor-filled, experimental note with the screening of “3X3D,” a portmanteau pic comprising three shorts helmed by Jean-Luc Godard, Peter Greenaway and Edgar Pera.

SEE MORE: Cannes Film Festival

Set against the backdrop of 2,000-year-old Portuguese city Guimaraes, the three shorts — Greenaway’s “Just in Time,” Godard’s “The Three Disasters” and Pera’s “Cinesapiens” — explore 3D and question its evolution within the film world, and its impact on audiences’ perceptions.

“Time” takes a look at the layering of images; “Disasters” centers on the history of 3D, which the fest says “could be the premise of (Godard’s) next film”; while “Cinesapiens” playfully explores the history of cinema.

Pic was produced by Portuguese producer Rodrigo Areias. Urban Distribution Intl. handles international sales and will distribute in France

Did Promised Land with Matt Damon go straight to DVD because I swear I saw it at the store the other day.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

Just watched Pain and Gain. Anyone else seen it?

I enjoyed it, even though it was loosely based on a true story the ending was fairly obvious and disappointing. The film did make me laugh a lot, Rocks character mostly.
