Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

Starship Troopers needed a naked lesbian scene with Denise Richards & Dina Mayer. And maybe Neil Patrick Harris as a voyeur.

While Total Recall needed more Johnny Cab scenes.

Hmm, seems I'm a page behind.

Kurt motherfucking Russell!

Oh and I'm going to get shit for this but Total Recall is the most overrated movie ever. It's awful. Starship Troopers though, that shit rules.

Hey i'm the guy on here that dislikes Drive, that's almost sacrilegious in these here parts. lol

i wouldn't call TR a great movie by any stretch, but it was one of the more entertaining and well made Arnie vehicles amidst a string of awful cash-in movies. It also helps when you're familiar with Verhoeven's knack for subtle cultural satire throughout his accessible films. Robocop was better for that, but this wasn't far behind. It's too bad that they had a chance to make a darker, more serious interpretation of the book with the 2012 movie and failed. That pisses me off a lot more than turning We can remember it for you Wholesale into a visually impressive Summer Blockbuster flick that kept the core elements of the book intact.

But really, I was thinking Bale would either come back to his home and kill Stevie or kill the armless man. I was mindfucked to oblivion when that didn't happen.

Eating while watching that was such a foolish mistake on my part.
Was eating lunch with my roommate when I watched that movie and immediately lost my appetite. Thought it was a great movie though.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part III

At Sono's request: I watched The Consequences Of Love the other day. Didn't see it as a masterpiece but intriguing, and very well acted and filmed. Very slow-burning and Toni Servillo as the protagonist is superb. It's a very restrained performance but that's exactly what was needed, and he's able to convey a ton of emotion despite the character not being a typically expressive person. Even though I'd probably class it as a thriller, it never kicks into hyperdive at any point and rolls along subtly, which is a good thing since it avoids clichés and fits in with the tone set throughout. With the mafia involved everything is very hush-hush and the director understands that. Great ending, not upbeat in many ways but a surprising yet logical finale. There were a few moments in the opening act that dragged a little but overall a good film that I think I'd appreciate even more on a second viewing.
