Default Lost and Walking Dead

Anyone else noticing how similar The Walking Dead is to Lost ?

Hers is just a few...

Life is gone as they know it and must start a fresh.

The Characters all seem very similar without going into too much detail.

Rick/jack - the reluctant hero
Daryl/Sawyer - the loveable loner/redneck
Carl/Hurley - Both useless to begin but prove themselves and future leader
Glen/Charlie
Kate/Lori

i could go on.........

Then a new group arrive on the scene ( the others/guvnors people), they seem friendly and also seem to be coping far greater than the original group, they are better equipped, living a more peaceful and civilized life and seem to have everything worked out.

Benjamin linus/the guvnor = leader with ulterior motivea

Infact i can actually see The Guvnors right hand man becoming the new leader in time ( smart guy with glasses ) and playing an even more similar version of Ben Linus in time.

Any others ?

Both shows are stories of survival in an unusual environment so they are going to have some similarities of course. Not trying to be a dick but I don't see the point of this discussion.

It's cool Lost was my fave show when it was on and Walking dead is one of my faves now and i just felt like discussing how similar not just the original opening setting but how its evolving with similar characters situations and happenings.

Does there really need to be a point to a discussion ? i mean there is a million Marvel and Dc Similarity discussions out there but people still get involved as its interesting to spot... but no point to it. Join in if you like or don't if you don't like not trying to be a dick about it.

I'm not shitting on your thread, as I am/was a fan of both shows. The final season of Lost was the worst pile of shit I have ever seen and the writing in TWD has been fucking terrible as of late.

as i was reading your reply i was thinking of a reply before i finished and my exact one wes.

They can have all the similarities in the world as long as it doesn't end up with the shittiest ending to a show ever like lost lol

I think lost and fringe have both got to be up there with worst endings ever... and funny enough both by abrams.

Abrams had little to do with Lost by the end. The blame for that goes on Cuselof. I was still on board all the way through the flash forwards and the time travel stuff in S5. They pushed my suspension of disbelief but I was still holding out hope that they would be able to bring it all together in S6.

I was sadly mistaken. That sideflash nonsense was ridiculously stupid. There is no excuse for killing Locke in a dingy hotel room off-island and not allowing him to have anything to do with the final season. The cast reunion party in the afterlife church... ugh. S1-S5 led you to believe the show was going somewhere with all of it. Nope. It was just a bunch of random shit that went nowhere. It's like they spent so much time building this great story that they had no idea wtf to do with it once they got there.

The same thing is happening with TWD. They've got a huge hit show on their hands and they aren't sure what they want to do with it. Which has led to very inconsistent writing from one ep to the next. It's gotten to the point that I watch it just as much to mock it as I do to enjoy it. Just the same as I did with Lost.

Yeah... these shows are totally similar lol... you got that right.

But at the same time it kinda did have a lot to do with him, i mean the whole way through people were questioning whether he knew where it was going and how it was going to end or if they were just winging it the whole time.

It he has an ending set before the show began then surely that ending would have been used with out without him on board ? that is probably what pissed me off the most that all this shit that was going on in the show had not greater thought behind other than lets make it happen and try to explain it later.

And the exact same shit happened in fringe amazing stories weird going ons and then final season rushed and shitty explanation that you just know was forced to tie it all together.

but agreed the locke thing and the shitty happy reunion was horrible.

There are other people who could answer this question better than me but IIRC, Abrams basically just started the show and had nothing to do with where they went with it in later seasons. I'm pretty sure they did not have an end game in mind at the beginning.

With TWD, Darabont can take no blame for where the show is now because he has been gone since early S2.

Sorry for the double post but I groaned and thought about this thread when Rick gave his "live together, die alone" speech.

Good point, they really are very similar. I stopped watching Lost too around season 3 when it got weird and I just didn't buy it anymore. Went back later and watched the last two seasons because I was curious how it ended but that was lame as hell. I stopped watching TWD halfway through season 2 'cause the writing was terrible. It was actually boring the hell out of me. I have no idea why people still watch the show. I guess for the occasional cool violent zombie scene?
