I enjoyed them all tbh. Problem was IV, V, and VI were some of the best films ever made so it was always going to be hard to replicate that success.

I do not buy that as a legit excuse. It doesn't have to be incredibly stupid to appeal to kids.

You make a point there I am just happy that after Phantom Menace that he wasn't featured as much in the last two films. So is Jar Jar your biggest problem with the Prequels? Or is there a lot more issues you have with the films?

Episode 2 is pretty shit but no. I actually like a majority of Episode 1, its just got its share of unnecessary shit in it. Episode III is fun save some really corny acting and dialogue.

To Lucas's credit I don't think he was trying to replicate the success of the Original films I think he was just trying to finish the story. I know a lot of people have stated that Lucas just wanted to take advantage of the new technology but so what? What's so wrong with that? I think people just over analyze when it comes to the prequels. Some people have acted like Lucas was trying hard to taint the Original Saga with the Prequels and I think that is crazy to even think that.

Re: Do You Hate The Star Wars Prequels?

I used to DESPISE them, but then I started smoking weed and realized all the stuff I thought mattered (Jar-Jar mainly) about them really doesn't matter at all. I'm in the middle ground now. I don't hate them or love them. I definitely think they were a massive let down compared to the Original Trilogy though, Lucas spectacularly dropped the ball with them and I think it's a huge part of the reason he sold the company to Disney, he doesn't want to deal with it any more.

It's strange. I can see what he was trying to do and it would have been awesome, they're just completely let down by the actual finished product, from the acting to the editing. When your novelization (ROTS by Matthew Stover) is better than the actual movie, you've made a shitty movie.

Can't count the number of times I've seen IV/V/VI. I can count how many times I've seen I/II/III.

I loved Episode 1 as a kid, now I see it and laugh at it being awful. #2 and #3 aint bad now though; I loved #2 for the end battle and Yoda fight.

If someone were to make an edited version that cut out Jar Jar from the Phantom Menace, I probably would like the movie. Attack of the Clones was a solid movie and I thought Revenge of the Sith was every bit as good as the original 3.

Re: Do You Hate The Star Wars Prequels?

Truthfully, no.

I went into Episode 1 with very low expectations. I didn't really want prequels to begin with. Why spend 3 movies building up something we know is going to happen?

But I watched them and they had their moments. The acting was shoddy, but alot of the action was cool. They had some dumb storyline decisions, but they also had interesting ways to tying into the original trilogy.

Phantom Menace was all eye candy & special effects and very little substance. It felt it started way too early in the time line and really added nothing beyond exposition...but it looked nice.

Attack of the Clones had some great action, fun new characters, and some darker stuff. But the "Twilight before there was Twilight" romance was annoying.

Revenge of the Sith was good when it mattered most. Had some of the same problems as the other movies like iffy dialogue and acting that was off, but things like Order 66 being executed, the inclusion of General Grievous, and the climactic lightsaber duels between Kenobi/Anakin & Yoda/Emperor were all great stuff.

So yeah, don't hate the prequels. They had their moments, but they can't touch the original three.

Re: Do You Hate The Star Wars Prequels?

Of course I grew up with the originals and they influenced much of my young life. I was such a Star Wars fan I had trouble getting into Star Trek. When The Phantom Menace first came out. I actually was one of the people who sat in line for hours when the first tickets went on sale, and saw it on the opening night. My feelings were mixed. I did like the movie, but thought the emphasis put on the special effects distracted from the story being told. I also think this affected the other two movies to a smaller degree.

The main problem as I saw it was that the original series was so good, and so influential to so many people, how could anything else ever live up to it? People just get their expectations too high. Sometimes I think mine were too. But as years went on, and I read the books of and around Episodes 1,2 and 3, I began to appreciate them more and more. I know not everyone reads the books, but the ones between the movies and leading up to them are some of the best ones, and really help you follow and enjoy them better.
