Re: Do You Hate The Star Wars Prequels?
Of course I grew up with the originals and they influenced much of my young life. I was such a Star Wars fan I had trouble getting into Star Trek. When The Phantom Menace first came out. I actually was one of the people who sat in line for hours when the first tickets went on sale, and saw it on the opening night. My feelings were mixed. I did like the movie, but thought the emphasis put on the special effects distracted from the story being told. I also think this affected the other two movies to a smaller degree.
The main problem as I saw it was that the original series was so good, and so influential to so many people, how could anything else ever live up to it? People just get their expectations too high. Sometimes I think mine were too. But as years went on, and I read the books of and around Episodes 1,2 and 3, I began to appreciate them more and more. I know not everyone reads the books, but the ones between the movies and leading up to them are some of the best ones, and really help you follow and enjoy them better.
I used to be a structural linguist, but now I'm not Saussure.
Masochist walks up to a Sadist in a bar. "Hurt me," the Masochist pleads. The Sadist says, "No."
Initially I entered this thread looking to make chemistry jokes... However, I fear that they Argon.
