Re: TV Show Thread: Season/Series 2 (NO FUCKING SPOILERS)

Another subtle gag I loved was how the characters would talk in obvious innuendo to anyone overhearing the conversation, whilst they themselves remained totally oblivious. Mac talking about proving 'how hard I am' and wanting to 'explode in people's faces' in the dual part episode was sensational and the reaction of the gangsters might have topped it.

That Dual episode I marked out because Mac was wearing a T Shirt advertising the tiny town I went to High School in. And the scene with Dee's car.

Mac thinks he's a master martial artist, despite lacking the ability to successfully throw a round house kick. lol

Sweet review WOOLCOCK, you seem to be loving this far more than I ever anticipated, had I known I would've sold you on the series earlier than I did Completely agree on the McPoyles, their appeal to me is that they're so off the charts bizarre that you know you're in for unpredictability. That episode you mentioned was great for the fact that the gang struggled to work as a cohesive unit, putting their ego before their own safety. Dennis trying seduce Margaret in order to gain her trust was a typical nod to his borderline narcissism. It's more or less the only group that can make the gang seem reasonably sane, yet the gang still manages to trump them with their sheer stupidity. The McPoyles only appear seldomly, but they're always a welcomed addition.

Re: TV Show Thread: Season/Series 2 (NO FUCKING SPOILERS)

I just finished the first season of 'House Of Cards' on Netflix, and fuck yes was it good. Kevin Spacey is just a machine and the whole cast is fantastic. It's shot beautifully and the story flows really well. Each character is developed to a point where you feel like you've known them personally for years. Most have these 'micro-stories' in the odd episode where you think it's just to develop them more but then it turns out everything intertwines and every shot is important. The series really feels like it's been hand-crafted (which is not surprising considering Fincher is the Executive producer) and nobody has settled for anything other than top class. I'd highly recommend anyone watch it. It's worth getting Netflix just for a month to watch this series.

I predict that this show will be as popular as Homeland by the time season 2 rolls around (assuming they renew it). It's a tough sell since it's a Netflix exclusive and hasn't benefited from a decent marketing campaign outside the service.

Surprised me that even the Joel Schumacher episodes were good, and everything flows as if it was made by the same person barring Fincher's low angle camera shots and unmisteakable dim lighting tone. First episode might've been the best one, but they're all worth checking out. Robin Wright's character might be my favorite so far, she practically steals every scene she's in, and Spacey is Spacey's usual self. The show feels like a prolonged movie which helps it stand out, let's just hope Netlfix's HUGE investment will pay off and this show will gain traction soon.

Re: TV Show Thread: Season/Series 2 (NO FUCKING SPOILERS)

A second season has been confirmed.

Yeah, my favourite episodes were probably the first two (the Fincher directed ones) since he's so class behind the camera is a genius at picking the right shots. I don't think there was a single bad episode though, which is great. I'm not sure who my favourite character is. I liked watching Zoe slowly and carefully develop from a sort of basic naive reporter, into this powerful, dangerous woman as the show went on. Spacey is obviously the man, but Robin Wright was very good too. She's never really been an actress I've been interested in but she was very impressive.

Like you said, hopefully despite the show being Netflix-only (which more than likely rules out a DVD release too) it will still get a lot of people watching. It deserves to have a big fan base.

Fincher doesn't let me down again. I keep expecting a dud from him at some point since he's been so consistent with his work but he just keeps getting involved in great projects.

Re: TV Show Thread: Season/Series 2 (NO FUCKING SPOILERS)

I was reading about David Fincher the other day, as research in the Music Business, as he directed music videos, that was his main start in directing and entertainment, all his movies are generally well critically received, even more so in some cases, I've been hearing things about House of Cards, and after me reading/looking out of interest to him, seeing his name with the project (House of Cards) I thought I'd check it out, got the first episode downloaded, I haven't heard a bad thing yet, and Fincher has a great track record (although I haven't seen all his stuff, I've heard/read about it), looking forward to seeing his work, especially as he directs the first couple.

Fincher is my GOAT, and I'll tell you right now he hasn't made a bad film yet. He's done some classics (Se7en, Fight Club) and should have won the Oscar for The Social Network. Most of his music videos are great too. He recently did Justin Timberlake's 'Suit & Tie' video. And House Of Cards is great and everyone should watch it.

I know a lot in depth about all the things you mentioned, I'll probably watch the first episode in the next couple of hours, and I think set about getting the series, judging from what I've heard, looking forward to it.

Rustled up some of my old Spaced DVDs. Fuck, I love that show.

Shit, might have to give It's Always Sunny a go, considering how many people have been praising it lately.
