Cheers. Wasn't easy to compile. Just on 1975 alone I kept going back and forth between Day of the Locust and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.

El Topo as a sig can only be a good thing.

Changing 1980 to the Ninth Configuration, and 2012 to Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Not a big deal, but it's an excuse to bump the thread. Especially looking forward to asdf0501 finishing his list, he was doing a superb job so far

Like i said before, the 50's and 60's are to great to choose just one movie so in most of them there are two or even three options in some years, and even doing that there should be greatness i'm forgetting.

1951: The River (Jean Renoir)/ Early Summer (Yasujiro Ozu)

1957: An Affair To remember (Leo McCarey)
1958: Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock)/ Ivan Grozny II (Sergei Eisenstein)/ Touch of evil (Orson Welles)
1959: FUCK IT, GREATEST YEAR EVER
1960: L'Avventura (Michelangelo Antonioni)/ Breathless (Jean-Luc Godard)/ Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock)
1961: Last year at Marienbad (Alain Resnais)/ The rebel (Nagisa Oshima)/ Early Autumn(Yasujiro Ozu)

1967: Playtime (Jacques Tati)/ Mouchette (Robert Bresson)
1968: L'amour fou (Jacques Rivette)

And next i will end the list, what is next is more easy but i'm really tired after this xD

Edit: I suck at this, forgot Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now,Videodrome, One from the heart, Vive L'amour and Dead Man so i'm editing to put them here.
Bravo on the entire list.

Had the bolded under strong consideration for my own list. That Sátántangó is something else, the style at times reminded me of a much longer, slightly less eccentric Eraserhead. Beautiful and Haunting if you allow yourself to be taken by the experience.

On an unrelated note, can't believe that I overlooked Phantom of the Paradise, probably my favorite De Palma movie. In a perfect world, it should've been as big as Rocky Horror if not bigger.

Default Re: Favorite Films By Year

it was a challenge to see Satantango complete for me, i was at least two days sawing the complete 7 hours thing xD. but it's really captivating, this thing of mantain the shot the most possible is a thing of beauty for moments and man the travellings. In fact, Van Sant has admited that sawing the Tarr films was his inspiration for the Style he used in his death trilogy and completely changed his vision of cinema.

If you liked Sátántangó, you should also see Werckmeister harmóniák and the Turin Horse.

And agree about De Palma, but he's seriously underrated aside from his gangster work

Oh man, I could never be bothered to come up with a list like those, so props to the guys that did it.

I could probably go as far as 20 years ago I guess. Fuck it, I'll try and do a list tomorrow since 1990 or something just for a laugh.
