Re: Star Wars Universe

I haven't read anything past Vision of The Future from a timeline standpoint but yeah what i've read about that sounds like it was pretty wack and just done for shock value.

I wonder what upset people more, Mara's death or Chewie's.

Edit: From what I understand Crofty she got stabbed in the back by someone who betrayed her and you were meant to think someone else had killed her. At least Chewie got to go out a hero.

Re: Star Wars Universe

Chewies death was amazing. Didn't Mara get killed by Jacen in a pretty decent fight? Lots of sneaky shit involved, not just a lightsaber slugfest. But Jacen kept convincing everyone (especially Ben) that someone else did it, so he could keep working on Ben going dark side.

The good part about Luke/Vader 2 was the emotions and brutality. There was no dancing, silly flipping, etc. The duration wasn't very long tho. Anakin/Obi-Wan would have been better if there wasn't as much silly crap during the fight. Oh, and that shitty finish.

Yeah Mara's death was Jacen's last test that Lumiya gave him to become Dark Lord of the Sith.

Re: Star Wars Universe

Was sad to see Chewie go, but he did go out sacrificing himself to save other innocents. I wouldn't have had it any other way. His "life-debt" to Han was going to demand payment at some time, and I thought it was handled brilliantly. It was a shame that R.A. Salvatore received death threats for having killed him off. I'm as big a Star Wars mark as anyone else alive but some people really need to get over themselves.

I also loved Mara Jade, but her dying at the hands of Jacen Solo to give birth to Darth Caedus made sense to me. To me Luke was losing some of his focus, and Ben Skywalker should feature prominently in the future of the Jedi Order. Removing her from their lives forced the both of them to take their roles more seriously. I also think it puts Ben in a position to rise even further than his father. Her death made Leia and Jaina more relevant to the existing storylines. Leia especially has become more of a badass, which I should expect from a Jedi Knight. It's about damn time.

Re: Star Wars Universe

I'm a big fan of Salvatore's work but I've never read that book. Is it as good as I'd imagine based on Bob's ability to describe swordplay?

Re: Star Wars Universe

I just have a small question. Has a character ever punched another character in the Star Wars universe? I know, it's kind of a dumb question, but I've only ever seen characters fight with blasters, lightsabers or the force....

3-400 pages (at BEST) is too long? I'd hate to see you try and read Shogun or The Stand.

Also why do people think Star Wars is so good when virtually everyone only likes 2 out of the 6 films? (4 & 5)

"virtually everyone" is not a recognized standard of measurement.

Yeah I really liked Jacen's fall. The parts I've read (Dark Nest onwards. I just started reading the NJO for the first time [still on Vector Prime]). One of my favourite SW books is Betrayal, but I think the LOTF series jumped the shark the moment Luke Skywalker murdered Lumiya.

Re: Star Wars Universe

Oh I dunno, Luke suffered for a LONG time after killing her. To the point where he felt he couldn't confront Jacen directly because he would turn dark after killing him. As much as I loathe the whole "Dark can kill light and be ok, but light kills dark outside of pure defense and they go dark" thing, it was done decently enough to believe.

Although, with how they ended the FOTJ series, I'm not gonna buy another fucking hardcover again. I'll wait on paperbacks or something. 10 books to go almost nowhere, jesus.
