Shouldn't the Han Solo & Boba Fett movie be the same movie? Now THAT would be sweetness.

To be perfectly honest, this harkens back to how I felt about them doing a prequel trilogy in the first place. I hated that idea. I felt like "Why spend 3 movies building up something we know is going to happen? I mean we all know the cool stuff isn't going to happen until 3, right?" and honestly, that is pretty much how it turned out. Any prequel to Star Wars is just a glorified history lesson any way, so instead of just doing a full fledged trilogy arc, I felt like the better way to go was stand alone films that give us background on the characters we already know.

I remember being 12 years old and asking people "Why do a trilogy when they can just do a young Han Solo & Chewbacca movie where they are being trailed by Boba Fett, a Darth Vader movie that maybe begins with his fall to the dark side and then we show him becoming the face of fear for the Empire, and maybe a C-3PO & R2-D3 movie that shows how they came to be part of the Rebel alliance in the first place. Those were my ideas anyway

So honestly, I'm probably more interested in these stand alone films than I am in 7, 8, & 9 (although that could be good in its own right depending on what they do with it).

And even the books just focused on more or the Solo and Skywalker family.

The only REAL expansion of the star wars universe i saw were Knights of the Old Republic

I have read a number of Star Wars books, ranging from awesome to down right terrible. The Thrawn trilogy was great, though I doubt movie versions would work at this point given the ages of the lead actors at this point. Now the idea of the Solo kids being the main focus in many of the stories is a great idea. Other ideas I didn't like? I remember reading one where Palpatine was somehow still alive after the events of RotJ and it was so laughably bad that it just reeked of bad fan fiction.

However, I don't see why the movies should be restricted to having to work within the expanded universe. There is a TON of Star Wars expanded media from comics to novels to video games and trying to work within that frame is bound to create contradictions no matter what they do, so why even bother? And also keep in mind that the general movie goer has read, watched, or played very little, if any, of the expanded Star Wars media and only know the six movies.

The movies, to me, should work within the framework of the previous films and nothing more. That way, it is accessible to a wider audience and give the people making these movies a bit more freedom to maybe come up with some cool ideas of their own. If they want to use plots and characters from EU, cool. More power to them, but they should be given free range to do what they want and be allowed to work with as much of a blank slate as possible instead of "They have to do this, this, and this or no it sucks!"

I do see where you're coming from, and I wouldn't be opposed to some new ideas and stories. I just cringe at the thought of outright wholesale changes and completely ignoring anything else that has been done to this point.

The Expanded Universe is great though. Lucas has at least a bit of control over them. I recommend it. Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi & New Jedi Order are fun reads.

Fuck anything other than the original films , they're all that matter and always will be. It's science.

I know mate, was kind of joking. But kind of not since I haven't read any of the books or whatever else there is and probably never will do. Nothing against them, I just don't really read much tbh so I doubt I'll ever read one.

Even the original films arent that good. Except for empire

its what makes star wars so interesting. Lucas invented an INCREDIBLE modern epic of sci-fi, western and samurai genres. The force, the aliens, the planets, its genuinely an incredible world

And then populated it with some pretty terrible characters and mediocre stories. Asides from flashes of brilliance, like Solo, Vader, Kenobi and Yoda

Star wars has so much to it. Its why I like KOTOR. It expands the nature of their universe by making it more epic and filling with true warfare and sci fi concepts. Meanwhile all episode 1 to 3 did was make everything smaller and more retarded
