Re: Star Wars Universe

The books for the Star Wars Prequel trilogy are better than the movies themselves.
On the other hand the books for the original trilogy, suck bad.

I think part of that is because the books for the prequels have additional "meat" to the stories. Like they went off the original script before some scenes were cut out. In the books for the original series, they pretty much went off whatever the author saw in the movies. Which is sad, because I remember a Star Wars storybook from when I was a kid that had part of an arc where Luke and Biggs were hanging out before Biggs went off to the Academy. It's too bad those stories seem to be all lost.

Ah, OT Books just felt so rushed.

Re: Star Wars Universe

I used to read the books, stopped reading after the Dark Nest series. Like the Bounty Hunters War and the short stories books (Tales from the Empire, Tales of the Bounty Hunters) the most. Oddly enough there always one story about Boba Fett in it.

Re: Star Wars Universe

Fucks sakes this made me laugh.

About Luke defeating Vader (Really Vader defeated Vader but thats besides the point)

Quote:
Aside from the Joker, Darth Vader is pretty much unrivalled for the title of the greatest screen villain of all time. He is the walking embodiment of the Dark Side, an evil, malignant force hell-bent on the destruction of all that is good and right in the galaxy, who has few qualms killing youngsters or innocents in his path.

Yes, he is forced to be the puppet of the Emperor, but he still manages to transcend his master in the villainy stakes during the first three movies, and by rights it should have taken someone of incredible power and moral integrity to defeat him.

But instead, a simple farm boy with some aptitude for fixing gay robots somehow manages to stumble through battles with the Sith Lord to ultimate victory, despite the fact that he basically spends the rest of the trilogy having his life saved by other people. Without Han, Luke would be dead; without Ben Kenobi, Luke would be dead; without Lando, Luke would be dead… and yet, the good-natured moron with the magic powers prevails over the all-powerful evil juggernaut.
We need a Threepio smiley.

There is truth in this. Vader always hated his master. It's no surprise he didn't try too hard to kill Luke, since he probably saw his son as his best chance of finally getting out from under the yoke of his master. In seeking to use Luke as a tool to surpass the Emperor, he ended up finding redemption through him instead.

Re: Star Wars Universe

Yeah Vader sacrificing himself and destroying Palpatine is why he was the one to bring balance to the force despite falling to the dark side. I don't think most people really consider that.

Also i'm reading Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover and i'm not really digging it so far, and you'd think I would because its about Sam L Jackson as a Jedi in Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Kinda cool to see some characters from LS & The Shadows of Mindor though.

Re: Star Wars Universe

I didn't think Shatterpoint was one of the best books in the EU, but there are some cool tie-ins with plot points regarding the ROTS movie.
