Loved last nights show. Showed to what lengths they are willing to go to get the job done. And the ending scene was great.
The tension between Phillip and Elizabeth is tremendous. The arranged marriage hanging by a thread, with Phillip ready to cross over to the red, white, and blue, and Elizabeth ready to give her life for the Motherland.
As someone that grew up during that era, and worrying about if World War III was coming at any moment, we had seen the Soviets as the Evil Empire and Reagan was willing to stand up and challenge the Soviets rather than live and let live. It is fascinating to see the show from the other point of view, how the Soviets saw us, especially at the time that Reagan began to turn up the heat.
The show strikes me as a Cold War version of the Sopranos. Although, in this case, I see Elizabeth as Tony Soprano and Phillip is more like Carmela.
anyway tonight's episode was really good. Phillip stepping up big time. didn't care for him so much in the first two episodes. the scene at the end with the dead window. damn. glad they aren't making it easy for the KGB to be the anti-heroes.
ALSO MAGS BENNETT not surprised the evil bitch would have her killed.
The pilot was engaging, but this one is the first time where it started to get good and flesh out Phil and Liz a bit. Gregory should be in it more. He's another great outlet for tension between Phil and Liz, while also being their ally.
And yeah MAGS BENNETT. GRANNY
I was pretty sure she was KGB when we first saw her. She plays innocent and sweet and vile evil pretty damn well. Love me some Margo Martindale.
