Re: Power Rangers

Some people have followed Power Rangers for its full 20 years in existence and even going as far back to its roots in Japan for the multitude of sentai series that Power Rangers was derived from.

Me, I only watched Mighty Morphin, the original.

To me, it was the Adam Wsst Batman of my generation. Goofy, nonsensical, but oh so awesome! That show is so entertaining, and I can't even contain myself when watching it. It is hilarious.

The things that really stick out to me:

- The Green Ranger was awesome. I was a huge fan of Tommy. White Ranger...not as cool. Green Ranger looked awesome, acted awesome, he had the Dragon Dagger, and hell, he got the hot chick (Amy Jo Johnson was one of my early crushes by the way). He also had the coolest Zord. Dragonzord was essentially Mechagodzilla...but more badass.

Just to be awesome, here is the Green Ranger theme. It is probably my favorite piece of music from the show outside of the main theme:

- Lord Zedd was one of the coolest villains ever. I always thought Rita was kind of a dork. Normally there is a growing pains period whenever there is a cast change. When Rita was pushed aside in favor of Lord Zedd? No such period existed. I was all like "Fuck yeah! This guy is awesome!". Or course Rita came back and they got married. Eh. His zord Serpentara was pretty fucking sweet though. What makes Zedd even cooler was that he was US Exclusive, showing that they were willing to put their own identity on things beyond just toying around with Japan footage to tell their stories.

Need proof that Lord Zedd was bad ass? Here's his theme music!

- And my last major experience with Power Rangers was actually the movie. After the movie, I kind of got out of it, but I was really excited for that film. I had to fucking see it, just like the TMNT film. I don't think it holds up well as a good film, but I look at it the way I do the Masters of the Universe film. Its fun and nostalgic and I smile when I watch it. Fun memories, and I remember my dad took me to see it and he legit laughed at a line that Rita spouted ("You spent 2000 years looking for a tub of snot?!") I will always remember that and it gives me fun nostalgic memories.

And just for kicks, here is that oh so awesome Power Rangers theme that will never leave you once you hear it.

I couldn't tell you what PR is nowadays. I saw a little bit of "In Space", the TMNT crossover (which sucked), and a big Red Ranger team up for the 10th anniversary, but other than that, I've been out of the loop on Power Rangers. All I can say is that I hope it continues to entertain kids the way it did me back in the day because it was a blast.

^^Ah memories. I stopped when the "Gold" Ranger (he technically was esentially the Black Ranger with some gold designs) made his appearance. My favourite ranger was the Black Ranger and I know I'm not the only one who had a crush on the Pink Ranger, right? Lord Zedd was awesome and actually creeped me out. Never like Rita. I...need to get the first movie. :o I have fond memories of that film. Saw it recently and I cringed at everything that came out of their mouths. I would still get it though. Hated the Turbo movie.

PS: Who thought it was a good idea to have the Black Ranger be a black guy and the Yellow Ranger be Asian?

everything in this post is exactly how I feel. I would pay lots of money to go to a Power Rangers reunion convention (like they do with Star trek). Tommy is still doing power rangers according to IMDB.

From what I read, they legitimately didn't realize what they had done until like 10 episodes in.

I think the fact that Power Rangers and Pokemon are both still running new episodes are proof that my generation which was the target audience for both those shows really had it the best. God Damn, the 90's were bad ass.
