I've only seen one of the films nominated for best picture (Beasts). I need to buckle down and catch the rest. I'm a big fan of Beasts so it will take something great to beat it.

I use to get butthurt over who is and isn't nominated for the Oscars but I've gotten to the point where I can look at it as being just something that is fun. It's like when my team is eliminated from the playoffs (Vikings) and I can just enjoy the clash of competition (and drink away the pain).

That being said I'm a little surprised that Mihai Malaimare Jr didn't get nominated for Cinematography for The Master. The photography of that was beautiful. Also Johnny Greenwood's score was tops.

Avengers got best special effects nomination. That's the best they gave you. and a Hugh Jackman nomination.

I still have to see Zero Dark Thirty myself but the way Affleck told the story & built tension in Argo I thought was impressive. One reviewer on TV today even said Afflect pretty much put the viewer in the hostage crisis with the people on screen, that's how effective his direction was. Oh well. I don't get too worked up over the Oscars but I thought for sure he'd get a nomination at least.

Yeah, Affleck's direction is brilliant in Argo, which is a million times better than Zero Dark Thirty.
