Re: FILM OF THE YEAR 2013
I wonder if Iron Man 3 and Thor will gain more money than their predecessors after how well The Avengers did. I would think so.

Gangster Squad looks insane. The cast is pretty good and the story is intriguing.

Re: FILM OF THE YEAR 2013
Zero Dark Thirty was really good, so that's obviously the best film I've seen so far. It wasn't anything special though like it's been hyped to be, and probably wouldn't enter my top 10 of last year.

Re: FILM OF THE YEAR 2013
The best year for movies has been 2007 (at least in my lifetime), 2012 had a few good films, 2011 had even fewer.
2007 had Zodiac, The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men and etc. I haven't seen any films that came out in 2013 yet, but to be honest there's not much to be excited about this year.

Re: FILM OF THE YEAR 2013
Seph, where do you think would be a good place to end DoS? I'd say end it as Smauag bursts out of The Lonely Mountain, and begins to make his way towards Lake Town, leaving a nice cliff hanger. That way, in the final film, we get Smaug's attack on Lake Town and The Battle of Five Armies their very own film to play with, kinda like Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
That way in DoS we get BEORN, Mirkwood, the Spiders, the Elvenking's Halls, the White Council's assault on Dol Guldur, Lake Town, and Bilbo's meeting with Smaug to end the film. DoS should be awesome.
Also Turbo, 2011 had DRIVE, that alone makes it a great year.

Re: FILM OF THE YEAR 2013
2011 was kind of bad overall, despite it having my two favourite movies of the last 5+ years, there wasn't anything else that was that note worthy. Last year had a lot of great stuff though.

Plus Paranoid Park, Go go tales, Inland empire and Death proof.
2007 was an amazing year for Hollywood, probably the greatest year for american cinema of the last 15 years (in competition with 2005). Even then is not better than 2004 and maybe 2006 for cinema in general

I was thinking when Bilbo finds his weakness. Or who knows, they ended up moving all the Shelob stuff to RotK, so who knows. Jackson likes to end with a big fight. With the subtitle being Desolation of Smaug I kind of hope it ends after
