Oscars are about politics like any other major prize.
Talking about Chaplin, he never won because the industry had this stupid idea about him being communist.
Kubrick never won because he was smart enough to make a name for himself and not depend on producers, being able to do whatever the fuck he wanted to do.
Hitchcock and Hawks never were rated in america at a critical level until the 60's so the industry heavily pass from them, and the people who made this change were french not americans (the people from Cahiers), same can be said about Fuller, Mann, Lang, Preminger and many others at that time. Sawing Hawks with just one nomination is a travesty at the level of Federer being stripped from all his Wimbledons.
Scorsese needs to cry for years just to being able to win one, and this was just a way to end this discussion
Welles was canned in the industry because Citizen Kane
was about Howard Hughes
Hell, Charles Laughton never was able of making another movie because the industry was making fun of him for years after doing The Night of the hunter
, one of the best american movies ever
But yeah, Ron Howard is awesome
