And Streep can outact most actresses, so you might wanna choose someone else to call out. It's all about taste, you haven't proven anything.

And for someone who doesn't care for these awards, you still appear on the threads. Nice.
"Personal taste"? How diplomatic of you.

I watch award shows religiously – but I don’t put any weight on them. I watch everything film related. This is a lifestyle for me.

I can appreciate the fact that a nomination and win significantly increases the value of a particular talent, and I am sure that people like Gary Oldman like to be nominated. With that said, I still feel the “personal taste” of the Academy is clearly quite rudimentary. And BTW I don't particularly rate Streep. I can always see her ticking away; she's always on the periphery of being the character. Overacts everything.

Gosling is so unbelievably boring. I certainly don’t rate him. I can’t imagine anyone would be interested in him beyond his superficial attractiveness.

Whoopi Goldberg has an Oscar.

You mentioned Gary Oldman. . . he has one nomination, I believe. Clooney, on the other hand? Four nominations with one win.
Yes, absolutely. You’re getting it. Forgot this gem:

Oscars are about politics like any other major prize.

Talking about Chaplin, he never won because the industry had this stupid idea about him being communist.

Kubrick never won because he was smart enough to make a name for himself and not depend on producers, being able to do whatever the fuck he wanted to do.

Hitchcock and Hawks never were rated in america at a critical level until the 60's so the industry heavily pass from them, and the people who made this change were french not americans (the people from Cahiers), same can be said about Fuller, Mann, Lang, Preminger and many others at that time. Sawing Hawks with just one nomination is a travesty at the level of Federer being stripped from all his Wimbledons.

Scorsese needs to cry for years just to being able to win one, and this was just a way to end this discussion

Welles was canned in the industry because Citizen Kane was about Howard Hughes

Hell, Charles Laughton never was able of making another movie because the industry was making fun of him for years after doing The Night of the hunter, one of the best american movies ever

But yeah, Ron Howard is awesome

I can understand someone's disdain for awards, but for every George Clooney, there's a Daniel Day-Lewis. There are politics, but sometimes somebody actually deserves to win. Those are the moments I watch for.
