True, he's good in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but still nothing that raises him above other guys. Not saying he isn't good because he is very good (occasionally). Just kind of annoys me when people think he's the best actor in Hollywood or the best of his generation or something.

Matthew McConaughey is underrated. He's too Hollywood Good Looking for his own good. Talented writers and directors see beyond the abs and can do great things with him, like Frailty, 13 Conversations About 1 Thing and Killer Joe.

I haven't been able to stomach Pacino in about a decade so is he "overrated?" Probably not, but the past 10 years for him has been positively brutal. Angels in America is the only thing he's done in the past decade worth a shit.

A lot of Pacino movies do not stand up after time, either.
Scarface is a very flawed film. I'll go so far as to say it is a bad one.

Yeah after seeing Killer Joe (not his first good performance or anything) i'm really starting to get on the McConaughy is underrated train because he was excellent in that.

I think with some people, Affleck is another example its just a matter of the projects they chose to make. Most of Affleck's stuff is just kinda "whatever" but he can be really good when he needs, like his two most recent films hes made.

Laurence Fishburne is vastly underrated. He has many good movies and plenty of good performances, yet never gets any praise at all.

I don't think that the Julia Roberts call will ever be topped, but Josh Hartnett gives her a run for her money. Surprisingly enough, the guy is still landing work in Hollywood.

His performance as Ike Turner in What's Love Got To Do With It? I'll never forget. He was funny, entertaining, and scary in that role. Not to mention the stuff he's done to show his acting chops in the Matrix series, Deep Cover, Hoodlum, CSI, etc.

Depp isn't overrated, he's just done too many films with Tim Burton at this stage

Speaking of Depp, I think The Lone Ranger will be good.

Another overrated actor I could never stand is Robert Redford. I can't name 5 films that were good where a much better actor didn't carry him through the picture. He should thank Paul Newman for making him look good.

This is a tough question

Males: Leonardo Di Caprio, Christopher Lee, Denzel Washington
Females: Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta Jones (she was, now she isn't), Natalie Portman

this is acting-praise-wise; not popularity. The popularity over rattedness of certain actors is outrageous today. When Channing Tatum pulls in more viewers than Giovanni Ribisi; fuck a lot.

How can you say Di Caprio and Lee are overrated? They deserve every bit of praise they get. Di Caprio is one of, if not the best actor in the world at the moment and Christopher Lee has always played his roles to perfection.

Also rgarding Gosling in Drive, he was supposed to be akward, that's kinda the idea. All the guy knew, was violence and driving. A beautiful girl comes into his life and for the first time (or maybe not the first time) he begins to feel something else. From the look of things, the only real social interation that he feels comfortable in is when he's talking to Shannon. He's awkward and out of place with Irene, even though over the course of the film he begins to feel more comfortable around her. There's also the idea that The Driver isn't all there in the head, as Mcqueen said he definitely feels alienated from the world.

That's the beauty with The Driver, I feel like there is so much that we don't know, and so much left up to interpretation that he is truly ours to choose who he is, and I feel like Goslong portayed that wonderfully.
