Re: DVDVR's Top 188 Films of the 1960s

Not a bad list at all. Good range. Can't think of any serious omissions at the top of my head but then it is quite a long list. Awesome to see Billy Liar up there, adore that film.

Re: DVDVR's Top 188 Films of the 1960s

Is a good list, but shows the overrating of Kubrick by putting two of his films in number 1 and number 2.

Also too little Nouvelle Vague in the top places (specially if you put Bonny And Clide over Pierrot Le Fou). Idem with Kurosawa being above Kobayashi, Ozu or Mizoguchi and Fellini being the best italian ranked

There was a little commentary about the project ending up predictable towards the end and could have used some variety but it was a very fun project nonetheless. Might have gotten more variety if more people had decided to take part in it but people seem to be afraid to watch movies that are before the 1970s.

Here was my Top 30 [I submitted a Top 100 ballot]:
1. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey
3. 8 ½
4. The Wild Bunch
5. Harakiri
6. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
7. Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
8. Le Samourai
9. Persona
10. The Great Silence
11. Woman in the Dunes
12. Lawrence of Arabia
13. Peeping Tom
14. Contempt
15. The Face of Another
16. Belle de Jour
17. Yojimbo
18. Night of the Living Dead
19. Midnight Cowboy
20. Cool Hand Luke
21. Hud
22. Red Beard
23. The Exterminating Angel
24. Samurai Rebellion
25. For a Few Dollars More
26. The Leopard
27. The Apartment
28. A Bullet for the General
29. Vivre Sa Vie
30. Hour of the Wolf

Re: DVDVR's Top 188 Films of the 1960s

Yeah, i understand what you mean. I find difficult to comment about this movies because some people seems to believe that cinema begins in the 70's, what is really odd. Even more when you look a the new wave movements since the middle of the 50's or the innovatives that the Russians made in the montage area at the 20's. But yeah, there are some standard answers but is good to see stuff like Resnais, Tati or Demy in the list even if i put them in top 30.

Then the list lack names like Hawks or Dreyer who are some of the greatest directors ever.

Good list by the way. I will not agree with the Fellini, Wilder and Lean stuff. Keep going down everytime i rewatched it
