Re: What was the last movie you watched?
This musical gave me happy vibes through its rich and colourful scenery of Paris and the way that the songs were sung with joyful smiles. Yet, at the same time my subconscious is reminding me of events that should be portrayed as creepy. The film is about a girl named Gigi (almost pronounced as she-she) that is raised by her grandma and aunt whom are part of the middle class of society. Gaston and his uncle are adults and are playboys. Oh! now, I remember where I got a little freaked out, the uncle was singing a song about little girls with a very happy smile on his face. Um... either way, it's a good movie with nice costumes and settings and it questions about the upper echelons of society on their depiction of marriage, love and romance. Geez... and I thought this film was heading towards pedophilia from the way the story was going, thank goodness it wasn't... I hope. 7/10
Princess Yang Kwei-Fei (1955)
The DVD title names it "The Empress Yang Kwei-Fei" and it's original title is "Yokihi". This movie directed by Kenji Mizoguchi is based on a tale from the Chinese dynasty. The emperor is distraught after the death of his wife and as a way to comfort him, his family finds him a lady that then becomes his concubine wife. Soon war wages on between the Chinese civilization and the two lovers have to overcome obstacles. The costumes are nice, it's stylish and the scenery and tone is vibrant with rich colour. There are nice sounds and music played by the harp and it witnesses Chinese culture in the form of their celebrations and dancing. It has a noble ending and I enjoyed it. 8/10
