just assumed they were basing it off the game with sam already old since thats the version 99.9% of gamers are aware of.

I completely agree with you. Tom Hardy is a great actor, but the stealth aspect that makes Splinter Cell so fun is something that I don't think can be translated to film and still hold the spirit of the games. It could conceivably still be a cool movie, but I don't hold out much hope for it.
