Yeah OP proved he's a troll or an idiot.
As for the topic, yeah, I think he definitely deserved it. Loved the performance and the character, and I loved the film too. I know it's the cool thing to hate on Nolan's movies these days, but saying that TDK is on the same level as the Spiderman and especially Transformer movies is rather ridiculous.

Can I start threads on how Denzel didn't deserve Training Day Oscar next? Or maybe how I thought English Patient didn't deserve it's Oscar either. No, because no one cares.

Re: Did Heath Ledger REALLY earn the Oscar a few years ago?
To answer the question of the topic, yes he did. He deserved that Oscar. However, I have severe doubts that he even would have been nominated just given the nature of how the Academy typically looks at films like Batman. As great as The Dark Knight was, it wasn't nominated for anything else. Why couldn't The Dark Knight be nominated for best picture as well as Ledger's best supporting nom? It was talked about Ledger getting the award before the movie even came out, so part of me thinks the Academy pulled a "Let's make ourselves look like good people and show off how awesome we are!" by giving Ledger the award. Maybe I am just being super cynical, but hey.
I kind of felt the same way about Sean Penn winning for Milk. That felt like they went "Hey, he played a gay guy that died! Let's show how awesome and accepting we are by giving Penn the award for that character" even though him beating out Rourke (who was nominated for The Wrestler) was, in my eyes, ludicrous.

Re: Did Heath Ledger REALLY earn the Oscar a few years ago?
I don't know if he deserved the Oscar or not. But I will say one thing. I didn't see what was so special about Ledger's performance. I mean sure, it stole the show, but it was a standout performance in a film I consider grossly overrated, so that doesn't say much.
Anyway, my understanding of the Joker character can be distilled into the following points:
- The Joker should horrify you.
- The Joker should make you laugh.
- The Joker should even make you uncomfortably feel sympathy for him, despite his macabre methods and wicked ways.
My problem is, Heath's depiction didn't make me feel any of this. As opposed to the guy in my avatar, this being my favourite depiction of Batman's arch nemesis (not to mention my favourite Batman flick, and my favourite film of all time).
Four years on, and I still can't work out what everyone sees in Ledger's performance. It was good, but not as sublime as everyone suggests it was. In the end, he never really felt like The Joker, per se - just some crazy guy in facepaint.

Re: Did Heath Ledger REALLY earn the Oscar a few years ago?
Maybe it was overblown after his death, but his role as the Joker is one of my favorite performances of all time. It was a disturbingly good depiction of a more realistic Joker. Definitely deserved the Oscar, nobody else came close that year. The thing that made Ledger great was the attention to detail. The way he threw his goons at Batman during the party scene rather than doing anything himself, the faces he made, the hand gestures, his tone, all the little things really added up.

Talent/charisma draws. Not size.
