In the original Halloween (watching right now), from Laurie going to investigate what's going on in the house across the way to the end of the movie, is some of the most suspenseful and scary scenes in a horror/slasher movie. Everything unfolded amazingly. So many memorable moments from the dead body discoveries, Michael appearing from the the shadows to stab Laurie, the chase to the locked front door, the closet scene, the sit-up, to Michael being shot is classic. The score makes it even better.

It's sweet because the most effective part of that movie is the lack of music.
With no music you're left to your own thoughts and it makes the tension much scarier and realistic.

As opposed to these god awful Paranormal Activity movies where you wait for two hours until something appears and some sound is played at +200 volume just to get you to jump out of your seats.

The hanging on a hook scene in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Holy fuck that creeps me out just to think about it.

When I first watched the original "The Thing" as a little kid (stayed up late without parents knowing, and it aired on Hollywood) I had to sleep with the lights turned on for quite a few months..

This scene is still to me the creepiest and scariest thing I have ever seen in any movie I can remember. That and the mutant scream, that scream just penetrated your damn soul.

Warning: This scene is very explicit, watch at your own risk
Spoiler for The Thing Scene:

The scream (skip to 1:24)
