Re: Justice League Movie
I'm excited for it, for sure. It's impossible for it Not to be epic, because I would assume this would be make or break for a DC film series given the success of recent Marvel productions.
I say embrace the comparisons to The Avengers as they can't escape them. Push the release date to 2017 and go from there. Again, to compare to The Avengers, Marvel made 2 Iron Man films, The Incredible Hulk, a Thor film, Captain America and The Avengers Assemble in less than 4 years. Release date of Iron Man 1 and The Avengers Assemble is a few days over 4 years. I can't get around the idea of having a big movie of them all together, and then separate ones. If Superman and Batman team up with Wonder Woman and Aqua Man to fight the big baddies of the Justice League film and defeat him, it would look pretty daft if Batman can't expect help from his buddies to defeat the Joker, or Superman to defeat Lex.
Rebooting Batman will be a problem for 2015 though. The Dark Knight trilogy was huge, perhaps one of the biggest trilogies of all-time. Rebooting a character as successful as that in less than 3 years from it's final release will not be a smooth move. I cannot see them rebooting him, although I know they must, and I also cannot see a Nolan-esque Batman working with a man who can legitimately fly.
They missed a trick in not doing this sooner I feel. As a normal guy who has only discovered comics in the last few years, (I would fall into probably 50% of the audience for these movies,) going back to 5 years ago the only superheroes I knew were Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Spiderman & X-Men. I didn't care for Thor, Iron Man, Hulk or SHIELD. Now, after those movies were so good, and my eyes were opened, in my head The Avengers are the first superhero movie I would want to see and the DC cast of characters I couldn't care less. Complete 180 from 5 years ago.
This needs to be made sooner rather than later. They need to lay the groundwork with Man of Steel, so we know it's definitely happening.
It's not a competition. I've read people say DC can't let Marvel have another series of hits like Iron Man 3, Captain America: Winter Soldier, the inevitable Thor and Hulk sequels and then Avengers Assemble 2 without reply with a massive movie franchise, but they can. There is room for both, and I can't wait for the future of both these series'.
