Why is Family Guy always criticized?
I'm a long-time Family Guy fan since 2007, and I have to say it's my favorite cartoon show in TV right now. Call me a brain-dead mark, but I find ALL jokes hilarious. In fact, I think it's better than the older seasons; keeps getting better actually. My favorite character is Peter Griffin btw.
With the show rumored to end in Season 14, what are your thoughts about the show as a whole, from then up to now?
And it begs the question, why all the hate with the newer seasons?
I heard old fans think the new jokes are unfunny and the plot shifted from a family-issue type to a gross pop-culture type. Even though I agree with this, it's already super popular worldwide and is already gaining a cult following across different media.
Anyway, I will continue to watch this show... and anticipate a big budget feature film.

Re: Why is Family Guy always criticized?
I still love the show (granted, I'm about a season behind) but it's not as good as it once was, not even close. I think I'll always have a sentimental attachment to it, but they've run out of steam a bit, that's why they do stupid shit like repeating the Cleveland in the tub joke about 50 times when it stopped being funny after the second one. Not to mention it seems like now it's just become another venue for Seth McFarlane to voice his political agenda, which I do not give a shit about at all. I can deal with him putting some jabs into his show about how people like me are idiots for believing in God, but they've gone WAY overboard with the political sentiment.

Re: Why is Family Guy always criticized?
Because its pretty low-brow comedy, which in itself is fine but its just the same old recycled tricks over and over now and its novelty has worn off for a lot of people. Last stuff they did I thought was good was the Star Wars spoofs which for the most part were pretty brilliant but that was a few years ago now.

As an non-American, I never though of this; never really cared for the discourse and symbolisms.
I'm just entertained because it does pretty good in poking fun at American pop culture

Re: Why is Family Guy always criticized?
Because it went from being a incredibly funny, clever, and original show to being a forum for atrocious writers getting their 15 minutes of shame each week. Look at how many staples grew from old episodes when they REALLY shouldn't have: Meg used as a punching bag, Stewie being sexually confused, Brian's rampant political agenda, etc. All of those were funny in small doses. Not in every single episode. They cut out wacky premises for mind-numbing jabs at more topical events. Horrible move. Not to mention the de-evolution of Peter. That's probably the most noticeable and worst change of the show. Went from humorously vapid to blatantly retarded. They should have stuck with where they were at and that's that. Oh and not let those new writers come along. They suck so much. Seth needs to be a filter. Then again, I think he advocates some of the crap they do. Sad.
I'll give this show something though...it's still LOADS better than the abortion known as The Cleveland Show.

This show reminds of that time JD from Scrubs started daydreaming...
*tilts head to the left and looks off into the sky*
Cue flashback/joke/daydream

Re: Why is Family Guy always criticized?
I thought it was a poor choice when the show started to use conventional themes to devise episode plots. That takes away a lot of the inherent freedom that a cartoon has. I've noticed that there are more cutaway gags that are placed to cover up any lacking aspects of the story. Many of these jokes just don't connect and fall flat.
There have been a lot of contrived efforts to elicit sympathy from the audience, or poor attempts to have the viewers care about the characters in general. One in particular was that hurricane episode where Meg stands up to her family for their bullying, yet at the end of the story, she apologizes to Peter for "hurting his feelings". How am I supposed to take them seriously when any character development turns into a waste of time?
IMO, the show peaked as its fourth season, and maintained a consistently good quality until season seven. Last season was by far the worst season of Family Guy. It was just consistently horrendous. There was a time where I could wait to watch an episode of Family Guy. Fortunately, I always look forward to the sister show American Dad and Archer.

It's hit and miss for me. American Dad is the superioir McFarlene show though.
