Re: The Walking Dead Season 3 discussion thread
After watching the episode again, I have to say that the Governor has some really strong teeth. He bit off Merle's fingers in a second. Loved the "not begging you" line from Merle, recalling his season one ramblings on the rooftop. Also, zombie Merle could really do some serious damage with his right arm.
I really think they could have done much much more with Merle's character. Him redeeming himself towards the end didn't really do much for me. It just made the final confrontation with Daryl more emotional. I was kind of hoping, since Rick left him on the rooftop in S1, that he would eventually become the Governor. Would have made the rivalry a lot more personal.
Right now the Governor hasn't really hit the group hard except for the Glenn beating and the Maggie assault. OK Axel and Oscar died but they weren't really part of the group and Rick never warmed up to them anyway. The Governor has a psycho fixation with Andrea, which makes no sense to me at all, and Michonne, a character the writers haven't allowed the audience to really connect with. Not enough to really get me behind this war at all. David Morrisey has been a disappointment as the Governor, but I blame the writers for that.
I'm hoping they stop the bullshit with the season breaks next time and just let the show have a continuous 13 episode run. This season has shown that the current writers can't work with a 16 episode format. Too much time to kill which hurts this show more. They just need to structure the plot next time instead of having to worry about 2 mini seasons.
That was a lot of criticism on the show from me but I only do it because I love the original story so much (the last issue of the comic was a bit disappointing tho) and want to have a similar experience with the show. Hoping the finale manages to be great.
