Re: Comics and Graphic Novels Vol. 2
So, here's the deal: I don't make it to the comic shop on Wednesdays, because of my work schedule, so I go on Saturdays. I was excited to go this week and pick-up the books on my pull list and grab some others, because I was reading the thread here.
Daredevil: End of Days did not disappoint.
AvX. . . where are they going to go with Cyclops after that conclusion? Honestly. They have had a couple of opportunities to really elevate him to main event status in the Marvel U. (and Storm in the past, as well), and every time, they miss it. As others have pointed out here, they just don't seem to know how to handle the guy. Seemed like they were building him the last couple of years with Astonishing and putting together X-Force, etc. and now what? You all are right about this.
Happy surprise. They had my copy of The Walking Dead Compendium #2, which I think shipped a week early (no, I didn't pay full price, either). So, I spent Saturday night blowing through issues #49-96. I have Compendium #1 (1-48), Compendium #2 (49-96), and then single issues 97-present. Some folks on other forums thought they didn't think the series had a long life from here on out (they argued it was due to limited angles), and I now disagree. I'm wondering if they shouldn't end it at Issue 200, though, and the next 97 issues or so could really be great! Why exhaust it when one can go out with a bang? Of course, now I've had zombie dreams last night, and then again when I took a nap this afternoon (which I had to take because I was reading the book).
I'm working on a Golden Age purchase, as well. They do time payments, so I will be chipping away at it for a couple of months. Someone asked about single issues a couple of pages back. Well, I went to a small local show dealing with Golden and Silver Age books, and I learned one thing from it: if you are going to collect/read single issues, one needs to FOCUS on specific runs or specific books. There are literally 1000 directions one could go, and it is maddening trying to collect "everything." After I buy this book, I'm putting my focus into a limited number of moderns every week, and then have to decide whether to go back to completing my Uncanny X-Men run (1-544) or sell it off and try something else (I'm leaning towards completing it, but I've essentially got most of 1-150 to go, with a few exceptions). After that, I'll have to see. . . anyone else "collect" specific runs in addition to getting moderns? I thought I remembered someone knew one of the big sellers out of the Dallas area. Some great books now, as well as the past!
Anyone reading Peter Panzerfaust?
I do want to thank you all, too, for turning me onto some stories and characters that I've missed. I don't catch everything, and my memory has gotten crappy since about 2002, but I appreciate that people like to read these and talk about them. They are for reading, after all! This is something I get to share with my oldest nephew, so I actually enjoy it quite a bit now.
