Yeah. It's such a different movie than you expect it to be going in. The Merman scene fucking killed me. I'm not even sure if it was intended to be as funny as I found it but I laughed so hard.

Oh, I'm sure the humor there was intentional since he kept bringing up the Merman the entire flick. I said watch you'll see the Merman here when the guy was lying on the ground. Then he showed up and ate his face It really was more of a comedy than a horror. I had that idea for a movie in my head for so long and then it finally got made. Sure, I might not have thought of something THAT spectacular, but it was pretty damn close. That's why I gush over it so much. It's the biggest homage to the genre of horror flicks ever. Throwing in the sci-fi & comedy elements only added to it.

Plus yeah RUFFALO as the motherfucking HULK was greatness.

My only real complaint about the movie is Capt America to me didn't seem like he got his dues when hes the core member of the Avengers and the most heroic person in the Marvel Universe and all he really got was a 20 second bit where he ordered the cops to help the civilians. Hopefully Avengers 2 he'll get to be the hero.

YES
Love it.

I really like the monsters they incorporated. There were all the generic ones and then some really creative stuff.

I'm not much of a horror fan and I also wouldn't consider it completely horror but it's probably my favorite thing close to the genre in a long time. Probably since the original Saw, unless I'm forgetting something.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

I wanted to relive what was the list of monsters and I found this glorious link: http://thecabininthewoods.wikia.com/wiki/Monsters

Angry Molesting Tree. Oh. My. God. Hilarious.

I've always been into the horror franchise so the tongue and cheek that they did until the reveal at the end were so well done. It's up there with some of my favorites in the genre now. w/Scream, Halloween, & while I consider them more "thrillers" apposed to horror, the Saw flicks. Movies need to always been this much fun when you watch them.

Agreed. The thing I hate about most of the random horror movies I see is a lack of any story and just a bunch of gore/jump scenes. I don't really wanna have to sit through some guy getting dismembered for no reason. ~__~

A little bit of light hearted comedy certainly helps.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Well, I'm not gonna say that I haven't gotten behind some flicks that are random kills for the hell of it. The Final Destination films being the first ones to jump in my head. I won't own them, but I'll watch a few if I'm in the mood and want to see some carnage. Although the last two that were pumped out were REALLY bad. Fun violence or not. Couldn't make up for the shoddy acting and lack of plot.

Yeah, exactly. That's why I also adore the Scream flicks. They threw in the humor to lighten things up too. Jay & Silent Bob cameo in Scream 3 for example, haha.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Watched Skyfall, it was really good. Bardem was great, and some of the set pieces were cool, especially the underground/tube station scene. The TDK comparisons are very apt I have to say. Probably liked it more than Casino Royale, and it's probably my favourite Bond movie ever. Didn't love it love it, but I was entertained throughout which is all you can ask for really.

Cabin In The Woods didn't really do anything for me. It was too much like a generic teen horror movie for the majority and the in jokes and references and slight genre tweaks didn't really make up for it. I really didn't care about anything that happened because too much of it was a 'inbred zombie things kill teens in cabin one by one'. I did mark out for the unicorn though.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II

Friend of mine took a considerable amount of time today telling me how much Skyfall compared to The Dark Knight. I'm almost inclined to believe it now w/o even viewing.

Did the rest of The Purge (all out insanity when monsters got loose) do anything for you? Anyone who liked the movie would probably say that was the highlight of the flick.
