I'd add Matchstick Men there.

AMAZING.

That being said, Deniro is greater at everything else (Money Made, Stardom, Movie Catalog etc.). I love Cape Fear and Goodfellas too.

It's looking that way McQueen.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is a mild thumbs up for me. It insists on being not taken seriously with all the humorous and flashy stuff thrown in, not enough dramatic offenses occur and action segments are more of a relevancy in the film, which isn't as appealing, IMO. I'll admit though, Cage's performance was kinda () solid and the movie its self, is very modest. So yea, Mild thumbs up.

I'll have to watch Adaptation and Leaving Las Vegas, Although i don't think these films will change my perspective on his acting abilities and of the similar. Thank God, Micky Rourke was chosen for the role in "The Wrestler", Otherwise it would of been another embarrassment to wrestling's catalog of flopped movies. .

EDIT: Thanks for making me feel at home, "Bubz". , It's not a complete welcome without a few dislikes, here and there. All personal preference though.

I wouldn't say that Suspiria is so similar to Black Swan outside of the "dance" thing. But is a masterful film, and if you liked it you need to see other movies from Argento, because he is boss

LOL.

I wss talking recently about the Theatrical thing and then this.

Whatever, he can be awful but if you see the Bad lieutenant remake, Wild at Heart, Bringing out the dead, Rising Arizona, etc. You would se he's not bad immediately.

Also, people should stop talking about this "one dimensional" bulshit

Just messin' man.

But seriously, Cage has the ability to be absolutely brilliant. He's amazing in Leaving Las Vegas, Wild At Heart, Bringing Out The Dead, Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Bad Lieutenant, Raising Arizona and even in things like Kick Ass, Con Air and The Rock he's really, really entertaining. Not denying he can be god awful especially in the last 10 years or so because he totally phones it in constantly these days with the exception of Bad Lieutenant and Kick Ass, but man, when he's on he's fucking on. I'd go as far as to say that he has one of my personal favourite performances ever in Raising Arizona.

The one-dimensional argument is actually valid considering there are different types of sub categories to a certain one might play, for example skyfall told me Cage plays more of a "crazy" type character or to put it plainly, a crazy individual, how many sub categories are there to that? Not many.

While DeNiro and Washington can play the whole/most drama genere in general, including its sub categories. Tom Cruise is another one, He can play almost all roles in the Action genere, whether it be an undercover agent or a military pilot.

Ok thanks. Looking forward to it.

I forgot about Bringing Out The Dead when discussing Cage films, good call on that. Another good performance by him. And as Bubz said, he's good in Con Air too, and he's definitely not' crazy' in that.

yeah I just meant Suspiria is similar in that its set in a ballet school, its a legit classic though, soundtrack alone is worth it.

Love Slacker, really should watch that again, might even prefer it to Dazed and Confused.

Cage definitely isn't one-dimensional. The argument makes no sense anyway because there's tons of different types of 'crazy' if we're going with your argument. Compare Cage in Wild At Heart and Leaving Las Vegas, he's pretty messed up in both, but totally different. In Leaving Las Vegas he's an alcoholic with serious life problems, he's depressed and he's losing it mentally, he shows real emotion, fear and you believe he's completely unstable. In Wild At Heart he's a nut job convict who's just totally off his rocker. The two are nothing alike, yet people say Cage can 'only play crazy people'. What does that even mean? A crazy person can cover a whole lot of ground.

That's unlike Tom Cruise who you say can play anything in the action genre. Yeah, he can play a undercover agent or a pilot like you say, but his performance never differs, He's the same in those films. He's the same in Mission Impossible as he is in Oblivion or something like that. I'm not dissing Cruise, because he's a very capable action star, but you can't tell me that playing someone with a CIA badge and someone who can fly a plane shows acting range.
