Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

I have a mate who has NEVER watched the same movie or read the same book more than once, even his favorites, his reasoning is there's so much to see/read and he'd rather find new stuff.
Seems a bit baffling to me, some stuff demands a few rewatches to take in all the little details.

Yeah that's pretty strange. You'd think he'd watch/read his favourites more than once. I can't imagine watching a film, thinking "wow that was spectactular. One of my favourites" and then never watching it again. Though I do see his point about wanting to watch new stuff due to there basically being so much to watch/read/EXPERIENCE.

Man, Pulp Fiction was the shit. I still gotta catch Kill Bill and possibly rewatch Reservoir Dogs since I saw it ages ago. Gotta love Tarantino

Looking forward to The Godfather now.

Don't call my logic bluff here, you wacky beatle!

I'm inclined to always watch my favorite movies over again. To beat the dead horse further into the ground, the reason why I watch Black Swan so much is thanks to how each time I watch - something new about the story seems to be revealed. Nina's past is shrouded in mystery so you're left piecing together why she has her breakdowns away from the art showcase & into her life. Why is the relationship with the Mom so strained outside of Ballet envy? Why did she have her scratching habit? Did he she have a previous history of psychological troubles? Was she violent? Oh. I'm winded from asking. Yet, that's the bliss of it all. The orgasmic wonder that is the mystery of figuring out why things take the psycho-sexual turn it does. Before you know it; the movie hit you and you're left asking "please sir, may I have another?"

Well said. A lot of my favourite films have a lot of unanswered questions and complex characters, so that's exactly the reason I go back and watch them again. To see if I can piece together anything new, or discover another layer to a certain character.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

I feel the same way each time I watch Kill Bill volumes I & II. Especially II when it comes to re-discovering moments. Dunno why, but sometimes I forget some of the best gems of that piece. I have all of Vol I burned into my brain that I can't forget any moments when it comes to reliving. That's for pure entertaining whenever I watch it over. Watched the Anime scene with O-Ren's legacy about four times in a row one night. Boss Tanaka - he didn't know what tree he was barking up when he slaughtered her parents.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

I think I found my second film to rewatch today. Tetsuya Nakashima's Confessions.
Personal TOP 5 of the year 2010. It's audiovisually stunning, top notch acting and very well written.
If you enjoyed Park Chan Wook's revenge trilogy I highly recommend it to you if you haven't seen it yet.

on Tetsuya Nakashima's Confessions. Couldn't agree more on the stunning cinematography.

I enjoyed the Vengeance trilogy to an extent, especially for it's surreal bleakness take on the "I spit on your Grave" concept. Oldboy felt like a seperate thing though, and perhaps my least favorite of the three. (probably will be infinitely better than the American remake).

I loved Park Chan-wook's short film in the Three.. Extremes trilogy set.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

That's really interesting, it's the first time I hear that. Usually it goes: Oldboy > Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance > Lady Vengeance. In my case as well.

Talking about Park, a couple more weeks until Stoker releases its Blu-Ray
Sadly I didn't have the chance to watch it at one of the screenings. Park directing & Clint Mansell killing the score is something I kept dreaming of.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

I didn't think Oldboy was bad at all and I know it's revered by alot of people, I just had more trouble getting into it than the other two. (perhaps it was the squid eating scene that turned me off haha). I wouldn't really know how to rank them, i'd have to see them again to do that. Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance is freshest in my mind, and my favorite if I was pressed into picking one. A very similar movie to those that's also pretty good is "I saw the Devil", it's with Oldboy's Choi Min-sik as the killer.
