A new(?) Pacific Rim trailer:

No doubt a thread about it will pop up in the next few hours.

So err, Enter The Void. Mindfuck is an understatement for sure. With all the strobe lighting I genuinely felt dizzy through a lot of it. It really is an experience, and even though it's quite hard to follow at points it does make sense. Sort of. Maybe. I'm still not sure if I even like it really, but I think it's one of those films that you would appreciate more on a second viewing. It definitely dragged at points, but other intense scenes made up for it. I have no idea what I'd rate it, but I do prefer Irreversible.

Irreversible is like Memento on crack. There's imagery in that movie i'll never be able to shake out of my mind, ever. Can't say that it wasn't well film and acted though, just something you need to be mentally prepared for.

Totally agreed. I love Irreversible, it's undeniably fucked up but it just grabs you and never lets go. Enter The Void definitely wasn't as fucked up, but it did have me feeling like I was in a rave. So there's that.

Lol, how can you hate so many films? I reckon there's only about 3 films that I outright have a burning hate for.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

What do you think was Gaspar's meaning behind the movie? If it was to simulate a sort of segway between death and reincarnation then Schopenhauer probably would've had a field day with the guy. lol It seemed to be that way since it ends with the Uterus CGI. It's very hard to interpret and probably a bit too experimental for it's own good. I really dug the visuals, that's probably the legacy it'll leave behind.

asdf. I wouldn't say any of those were bad, I think Oldboy and Fight Club get far too much praise for what they are, but they were definitely two of the better movies to hit the mainstream. Alot of people call Fight Club Fincher's best work, I don't think that's even close to being the case. Memento was fine, but it did bore me in parts. Fresh concept, even though it isn't entirely original.

Well, probably Hate is a really strong word

but i can't support some of the visions on that movies, Irreversible is particularly atrocious and pedantic while it had a lot of unnecesary stuff and a celebration of the same violence that want to condemn (same problem that the end of Fight Club has).

Edit: Blarg, i will say that Zodiac is the better Fincher movie, not that difficult because he's good in a Spielberg sense (i mean the natural talent behind the camera) but had some of the same problems than him imo, for example too much emphasis, stoping any chance of reaching the next level.

Re: General Movie Discussion Part II (part III coming soon)

The visuals were stunning for sure, cinematography on that film is some of the best I've seen. As for the meaning, jeez it could be anything. I think he's left a lot up for discussion but it's basic themes are death/afterlife. Alex giving Oscar the Tibetan Book of the Dead and explaining stuff about reincarnation make that pretty clear, but there's so much else going on. Dealing with his sister and [SPOILER]the death of his parents[SPOILER] as well as tons of other stuff. I'm still recovering from it now really lol.

It depends how people see Fight Club, whether they just see it as a black comedy thriller, or actually look at the themes about consumerism and masculinity. Hell, some critics even called it fascist and pro-Nazi when it first came out.
