They pretty much jumped the Shark with Spiderman, even though they were technically obligated to do that given the contract Sony had with the licence.
It makes sense to reboot franchises since people tend to go for brands that are familiar to them. In Saw's case, it's just stupid since A) The last movie came out 2 years ago, and B)People have gotten their fix of the whole torture porn craze. If they were to bring it back, at least wait a decade or 2 so you can introduce it to a new generation.
