That's be cause every film in that collection is Warner Bros., and The Prestige was not WB.

And Rocky Horror sucks Big Daddy V balls.

I don't think horror movies should scare you to be good. I haven't thought like that since I was 12. That logic just applies to the Paranormal Activity series. Great films like The Devil's Rejects make you hate the characters in the movie and not rely gore or scare tactics.

Generic horror movie characters don't scare me anymore. I think the last time I was really creeped out by a character was the religious woman and her mob in The Mist. Now that shit was scary.

Everyone needs to watch Snowtown to see hoe powerfully 'evil' can be portrayed in a film (as far as modern movies go). It's not a horror per say, but fuck me if it isn't one of the most terrifying depiction of real life evil I've ever seen.

I agree, horror doesn't have to be 'scary' to be good. I just haven't seen a huge amount of horror films I thought were good to be honest. It's just a genre I seem to be unable to take to, apart from the odd movie here and there. I'm going to put it out there and say that Rosemary's Baby is the best horror film ever made. Just a brilliant film, and not just for the horror genre. Psychological Horror is where the best horror films come from, non of this slasher stuff has ever done it for me. The original Halloween is good though. A recent horror film I saw was The House Of The Devil which I thought was great. It's a tribute to horror films of the 70's and it reverts back to the old days of suspense and tension to build the horror which is something completely missing from most modern day horror films.

Well taking about good horror movies, i know no one cares but a top twenty of horror films without order:

Psycho (Hitchcock)
The Thing (Carpenter)
Dracula (Terrence Fisher)
Freaks (Browning)
The Beyond (Fulci)
Martin (Romero)
Suspiria (Argento)
Nosferatu (Murnau)
I Walked With A Zombie (Tourneur)
Vampyr (Dreyer)
The Tenant (Polanski)
Dellamorte dellamore (Soavi)
The Shining (Kubrick)
Hour Of The Wolf (Bergman)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Hooper)
House Of Usher (Corman)
Inland Empire (Lynch)
Carrie (De Palma)
The Wicker Man (Hardy)
The Exorcist (Friedkin)

Some of them are questionables in the genre (like the lynch, Bergman or Hitchcock ones) but i can probably name another twenty more, the horror is certainly a underrated genre of cinema because people seriously belive in this "not serious" bullshit. You can name tons of movies between the serie b, the giallo, the gore or the hammer productions and that without talking about the filmography of people like Landis, Carpenter, Tourneur, Romero, Browning between other or even modern directors like Miike or Aja

I thought poltergeist was the scariest movie ever when I was little. Still kind of creeps me out. I think that's a pretty good movie too.

The thing is, I've seen a bunch of those films (some I haven't), and I just never seem to find much to like about them. The Exorcist, The Shining and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are three really overrated films imo. I haven't seen TCM for years but I didn't like it the last time I saw it. I actually watched the other two more recently and The Shining bored me to tears and has Nicholson in overacting mode, and The Exorcist just didn't do anything for me at all. There's just this disconnect between me and the genre, even a lot of the classic horror films and a bunch of the ones you listed there, and the ones I haven't seen I've read about, but have no motivation to watch them because I know I probably won't enjoy them. It's my movie blindspot tbh.

The Thing is amazing though.

Freaks is undoubtedly the creepiest movie ever released. That song still sends chills down my spine

A top 20 horror movies list without the movie Jaws just seems like a fraudulent list to me.

Jaws is the only horror movie to have ever affected me in real life. I will not go in the ocean. I wont. On the list of horror movies, to me, it's Jaws and then everything else.

One of my favourite scenes ever is from Jaws. I sing this for days after seeing or remembering it:
